I upgraded from MC 17 to 18, so have both versions on my system.  I recently loaded a new set of albums for an artists onto my NAS.  Then launched MC18.  Had 2 albums originally.  Ran Auto Import , and it loaded all the new albums but lost 1 album.  Then ran MC17, did a full reload.  Now have more files in MC17.  In MC18, I have 9490 files.  No matter what option I use to update MC18, i can't get back the lost album in MC18.

I go to Configure Auto Import, and have the check box OFF for - Ignore previously removed from library.  Nothing.  I saw on your wiki about using right click on Windows explorer.  That works and forces a load into MC18 for that missing album.  I now have 9502 instead of 9490.  It is still is short of number of files in MC17.

I then went through artist by artist to see what was missing and found at least 10 - 15 albums for various artists that were not in MC18 but were in MC17.

I manually forced a load of these albums doing a right-click from Windows Explorer, but this does not ensure that I will always have all the albums IN MC18 in the future.

What is causing MC18 to not load or ignore some of my albums?  What can I do to fix this and load all the albums and to ensure I don't lose any in the future.  I would like to finally uninstall MC17, but am worried about this issue with MC18.

Does upgrading from MC17 to MC18 require starting fresh with a new import ?

Or can the existing library from MC17 be used with MC18 ?

MC can convert libraries and settings.

Okay, that might explain why we see this reported only a handful of times (three times in my recollection).  Probably most people are converting their MC17 library and settings.

So, only a few start fresh, while nevertheless still knowing how many files were imported by MC17.

Seems like it might be worth tracking down why the particular album was imported manually, but not imported by Auto-import.
