Has anyone compared the results of LAME 3.88 used in MEDIA JUKEBOX with that used by EAC - LAME v 3.91? The EAC version seems slower than the v3.88 plug-in but reviews say that the 3.91 external version is better, especially in the area of "clicks and pops". Opinions greatly appreciated. My goal is quality rather than speed.

You must set the compression options the same
to even start to compare.  VBR takes a lot longer
than CBR.  Go with the new version - much improved
in the VBR quality.  New Lame supports macro settings,
but available in MJ only in External Encoder selection.

I have used external lame 3.91 with both.  I am quite happy with its performance.  using the "--alt-preset fast standard" command line it tends to encode at about 1x to 1.5x on my PII 333MHz machine.  Since EAC will queue external encodes accross multiple CD rips, I can rip 4-5 discs at 1.5 - 2.5x, select shutdown on the last rip and go to bed.   EAC will finish all encodes and then gracefully turn the computer off.  With this feature you could even use "--alt-preset standard" which is much slower but better quality, if you want.
