Yeah!  I quit quite a few years ago.  I've fallen off the wagon once or twice (drunk at bars is dangerous), but the important thing is to get back on.

The key is to decide (for yourself) that you just can't have even one.  Once I convinced myself of that, it was easier.  Eventually, you don't even remember about it at all.

I remember when I quit 32 years ago. I totally convinced myself that just one puff and and I would be right back on. And that really is true. As Glynor said with that belief it is much easier to stay off.

The other thing that happened for me was the change from being around cigarettes smelling good, to them smelling awful. Can't remember how long that took, but it also helped to stay off the darn things.

Congratulations on your quitting xplain. It really is worth it. One of the best things in my life, and for my life!

I also think the way we psych ourselves on these issues has a big part in their success, or not. Once you consider yourself a 'non smoker' you will be there. I hope that can happen soon for you.

The key thing is to not pretend that you don't like smoking.  You need to remember that you're giving up something you really like.  (Even if it is just the nicotine.)

Good luck.

I quit In 1983

the devil kept telling me to take a Puff for a few months.

if you drink alcohol, this may tell you that you need a cigarette, so stay away from any places that smokers congregat.

I quit 18 months ago. Nicotine is highly addictive (1 puff is all it takes) but physical addiction is gone after only couple weeks. Just got to be tough for few weeks then tell that little voice to shut up since physical need is long gone. Allen Carr's book was helpful for me.

I know I have made the right choice, and this time, (tried two times before) I will not return to be a smoker.

It was at the summer-holidays, I picked up the cigarettes again, the last two times I quit smoking, telling my self that when we come back to Denmark from holiday I just quit again, now knowing this is not realistic, I told myself that I can never smoke again, and I'm happy with it.

I quit about 15 years ago after smoking for about 12 years. Weird thing is I never really liked it and I always thought that it stank too. Guess that made it easier to quit. First thing I'd do when I came home was change clothes and I rarely ever smoked in my own house.

I celebrated the day that the government enforced smoke free cafes, pubs, restaurants. Nothing worse than having a table next to you with smokers in a restaurant.

Keep it up xplain. You won't regret it.

I quit in 1983 like I said when I went To Granada with the 82nd airborne Div, I got Sick from the water I think, and ran out of cigarettes.

Cuban cigarettes suck by the way.

Closing in on one year without it my self. Have tried before, but have fallen back to the cigarette for shorter periods. I allowed my self a smoke now and then, and that just don't work. Quitting isn't that hard as long as you convince your self of never doing it again. Not even one. And, yes, try to stay away from people smoking while you're drunk. That's the most dangerous part. When that happens you just have to remember that you'll forget about it in a few minutes, and you're safe again.

I invested in one of these beauties to help me get past the first months. http://www.modsmoker.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/Classic/UGO-E-Cigarette-04.jpg
It helps to have it in the pocket when you know you can get hammered. Just in case. If you feel a strong urge it's better to fall back on this one, instead of the real thing. Just don't use it for every beer you take :)

Good luck!

Very happy :-)
