I am using a Lacie 2Big 2 NAS server to hold my 2tb worth of music which is all apple lossless the albums will load and you can see them from the NAS library on jriver but when I attempt to play a file it says there is an error mp3 files will play fine however, aac files also will not play as they also m4a's

I have the same issue too playing over the network on Mac to Mac, but Mac to PC works fine. The issue I am experiencing in addition to yours is that the MP3 files always start about :30 seconds into the selected track. I have no solution at the moment but am testing each Alpha series as they are released. If I get it solved I'll post it here on this forum.  -- Tom

Try the 178 build, there was a fix for this sort of problem.

Here's an update: build 178 enables MP3 files to play in entirety, but I'm still having issues where M4A/AAC files will not play at all. I've tried a lot of variations to get the network to allow access to the files, but always end up with the message "Something went wrong with playback". I'm thinking it might have something to do with either permissions or the way a system firewall might perceive it as a threat.

Good job on fixing most of the network playback Mac to Mac issues! Now to get the AAC files working...

Can you describe how you're using the Lacie NAS drive from Media Center on Mac?  I tested loading a library from a network DLNA server and was able to play m4a files ok.

I tried again and now almost all of the m4a files work except for some that JRiver says are not there even though they play on iTunes I will try rencoding these and see if that helps.

Hi John...

I am not running off a NAS, but an external Firewire drive. I have noticed that there seems to be something blocking the transmission to my MacBook Pro. It may likely be Norton 360 running off my iMac. I uninstalled Norton from my MacBook Pro but the issue persists. Let me see if disabling everything Norton on my iMac does the trick. If not, perhaps my router is doing it.

I can play any type of file except M4A/AAC.

Will reply back with the results of the tests.

Hi all....

I was half asleep when I modified something in the MacBook Pro's Media Center and then I could play M4A/AAC files on it from my iMac's library. I'm not sure what it was, but it may have had something to do with synching. I remember unchecking the "Sync with server" option but I don't recall if that did anything because when I went back to verify the solution, it was checked.

In any case, I can now play all music files from my iMac's DNLA source to my MacBook Pro. Hurray!

I have rencoded some of the m4a ALAC files that would not import to FLAC and now they import it would be nice however if 100% of my current ALAC audio files would import into Media Center, I have noticed that just about all of these are between 24/88 and 24/192 resolution. The 16 bit files are definitely not being missed.

As a recent convert from iTunes, most of my files are either 16 or 24-bit, so I did not know that the high-resolution AACs aren't playing. WHen your lower resolution AAC files began working in the DNLA, what did you do to make them work? I could not 100% verify my solution as it was unexpected and I did not accurately remember what I did to make them work,

Actually except for 2 none of my m4a files are AAC they are all apple lossless

Can you send me one of the files that plays in iTunes but won't play in Media Center?  Maybe you could "dropbox" one of them, or some other file sharing service.  If you have a small one, you could just email it to johnt at jriver dot com

Here's what I wrote on 3/31 -- "Help, please: I am using MC for Mac version 18.0.155 with Mac OS 10.7.5. MC generally works great with wonderful sound -- but with DLNA I can't get M4A/ALAC at 48/24, 96/24 or 192/24, etc. to play with sound. FLAC at 48/24, 96/24 or 192/24, etc. is no problem. Am using MC in DLNA set up with PS Audio PWII DAC. Any idea of what is my problem? Or, is it a bug?

 Response on 4/1 was to try different settings for 24 bit; didn't help.

No I Have tried that and the same ones do not show up in the media center.

Please send a log to johnt at jriver dot com..
1. Start up Media Center
2. go to Help -> Logging -> Enable Logging
3. try playing an m4a track to the PWII
4. after it fails, send a log using the "Report problem button" on the logging dialog

I am also having trouble with playing m4a files from a DLNA server via mac on my PWDII, The files will play directly on my mac using MC but refuse to play on my PWD. Another renderer eLyric plays all the files well however the sound to my ear is not as good. Interestingly the files that are problematic are those that I ripped using iTunes from my original CD copies. All downloaded content FLAC, AIFF and mp3 plays fine.

I have logged the fault. How do I send the file to you?

I sent the file without answer, I gave up and spent countless hours converting all my CD's to FLAC which seems to have worked.
