Continued PEQ bugs and a request...
« on: May 11, 2013, 09:30:22 pm »

I'm still having the issues where MC checks unchecked boxes in the PEQ after closing and reopening MC completely. I know in the past no one else has been able to repeat this but it's still ongoing for me and I'm hoping it's happening to someone else. I've deleted the filters that it continues to check so it's not a problem but I have to add these back when I'm working on my speakers.

Another issue is when I check a box in the PEQ (usually right after restarting MC), or check any of the main boxes in the DSP Studio tree the DSP Studio loses focus and the main MC window comes up. Very annoying when doing lots of work in the DSP studio.

I'd also like to request an added filter to the PEQ. It would be nice to have a high-pass and a low-pass filter with a user definable slope. This would be nice when trying to hit acoustic targets when designing crossovers. For myself, I like to have a "house curve" at my listening position, with the knee about 300hz falling away to minus 2-6dB at 20khz. Currently I need to use 3 high shelf filters to get the desired slope, and it's a PITA when I'm listening to a recording that's hot in the treble and I want to lower my house curve - I have to change all 3 high shelf filters.

Another issue is when I check a box in the PEQ (usually right after restarting MC), or check any of the main boxes in the DSP Studio tree the DSP Studio loses focus and the main MC window comes up. Very annoying when doing lots of work in the DSP studio.

This happens to me pretty regularly, but (strangely) it only seems to happen when I bring up Holm Impulse.  It's like clockwork, everytime I start Holm it starts losing focus whenever I click one of the main DSP modules.  I only bring this up because I do most of my DSP fiddling when I'm doing measurements, so it took me a while to realize that was what was causing it.  I have to quit JRiver and restart with Holm closed to make it stop.

And that's not the only weird interaction between Holm and JRiver; for example JRiver outputs to a different soundcard than my system default, but when I start Holm, even though it's only interacting with the default sound device, it resets the soundcard that JRiver is playing, which kills playback and sometimes crashes JRiver.

I don't have any more info about the other issues, but I thought I'd throw that out in case you have the same issue.

I'd also offer another vote (+1) for more customizable crossover slopes (odd order filters, etc.); as it is if I want an odd order filter I just dial it in as part of my convolution because rePhase has a lot more crossover flexibility, but I'd rather do as much as I can in JRiver's DSP (without having to use three shelving filters).

That's interesting about Holm's interaction with MC. I don't use Holm very often, but I've never had anything weird happen when I do. Mostly I use REW but I've been getting back to ARTA lately. I get much more consistent polar measurements with ARTA out to farther angles as well in my living room. Weird thing about ARTA is I can't make any measurements with convolution on.....it won't output at all. Sample rates and everything match up so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Thinking about it now, in ARTA you can specify the FFT length. I build filters with a large FFT length for LF resolution in rePhase, and I wonder if I need to up the FFT in ARTA........I gotta admit I don't understand much about that.
