Hi,
I just tried to buy MJ8 from the upgrade button.
After entering all Credit Card information, I received the message.
Waiting for server.
Then the program stopped responding...
So I wanted to try again, but I want to be sure I won't be charged twice !
Please help me (I wanted to give J River a call, but you do not offer phone support... so I hope you will answer this very quickly because my test period is over and I cannot use your wonderful software anymore...)

Thanks in advance

Hi yannl,

I cannot find any entry from you at all in the logs - you were not charged.

You must be connected to the internet while you purchase. If you were, you may be blocked by a firewall.

Well, I turned firewall and Anti Virus off (just in case)
I reinstalled latest MJ8.0.234 build, after properly uninstalling former version.
I started everything again.
And... I'm still to "Connecting to server" and when I clic the pop up window, it says (Not responding). Even if I let it working for 10 minutes...
So what can I do now ?
It seems that the credit card information is not stored under /program files/jriver, because I deleted the folder after uninstalling and before reinstalling (to have everything really clean) and when I tried to launch the buy process again, MJ remembered my credit card and user details (btw I don't like that.
Well, again, what now ? Do you have a browser based version of the buying thing ?

Disabling a firewall sometimes does not actually disable it.  Uninstalling the firewall has been necessary for some users.  Zonealarm, I believe, was the culprit.

What firewall are you using?

You can buy on another machine and move the license.  See the FAQ above.

There is no other way.

Firewall is off. I'm using Sygate Personnal Firewall and I haven't just disabled it (like the "allow all" option). I've totally closed it (had that kind of prob in the past , so it is not a firewall problem... I even shut down Anti Virus, just in case (NAV 2002)
Are you using some strange port / protocol stuff ? I really see no reason...
Are you 100% sure your server is up and running ?
No DNS problem (who knows...)?
No prob w/ MJ8.0.234 ?
No prob w/ european servers ?
No prob with God ?
I'm lost.
Will try from another computer... the thing is... I already tried with thhe two I have here...
But they are both running XP Pro... Well.. does somebody has an idea ?

I know you don't believe it, but the most likely cause is firewall.

Yes, our server is running.  No, it isn't Europe.  Yes, 234 works.

XP also has some firewall capabilities.

yannl

what he is saying is

If A Firewall Is Installed Like Zone Alarm And Others, When You Close The Firewall It Still Will Not Allow A Connection. You Must Have It Loaded Or Uninstalled.

I Found This Out My Self At Least With Zone Alarm When I Was Having Problems With Running The Music01 Server. Zone Alarm Not Running It Was Still Blocking Music01, uninstall Or Running It Worked.

Hey guys... guess what... I did it. I uninstalled Sygate Personnal Firewall Pro, to test your idea. And it worked... in 1 sec.... It's annoying, because that means the way the security works on your registration process cannot by bypassed by the firewall. I mean, Sygate is a good product, at least that's what I though, but it is still bull#### then (Zone Alarm is also supposed to be a good one). I tried Norton Firewall 2002 last year and I uninstalled it exactly for that kind of reason.
But:
If two of the major firewalls on the market, used by millions of users, have to be totally uninstalled for the registration process to work, don't you think you should investigate a little bit ? It's not normal... If you use standards ports and protocols to do it... it should work. I buy often stuff on the web and it's the first time that I cannot spend my money because of my firewall
At least, MJ8 should'nt crash ! But give a message like "we cannot access our server, please press here for more info" and then give a link to a faq with the firewall thing explained. But that's what beta are for, mm And that's why we agree to help you finding that kind of "bug".
Well, now I'm a happy registred user !
Thanks a lot
So now it works. Hope this will help others.

...having the same problem.  Guess ZA is blocking it,
even turned off.

A better failure reporting system would be nice - agree.

We can't always provide accurate error messages since all the program sees is an infinite wait.  And crashes are sometimes part of the pleasure of Windows networking.  In other words, we don't have enough information to know what is going on or prevent the OS from going bananas.  Suggest sending a postcard to Bill G.

Why not... a postcard to Bill... Mmm, if MJ was working perfectly with Wine I think I would move everything to Linux
BTW, when will you adapt MJ for pinguin users
But I understand your point. Maybe you could just add a topic about it in the help files.
