Fast forward/rewind problems and latency of music controls
« on: August 07, 2013, 07:09:29 am »

Hi, I have a PC running jriver media centre 18, and I am trying to get it working with my Pioneer N-50 streamer. Since the pioneer's app user interface is utter rubbish IMO, I decided to buy the JRemote app as an alternative to the Pioneer's app.

I am using the Pioneer N50 as a DMR digital media renderer in stead of the full streamer in my case, so I can use JRiver's app to push music to the N50. When I use the JRemote app, and I play music from my JRiver media centre on my pc on to my iPhone or iPad, it works flawlessly. Play/pause/stop/next/previous track skipping works instantly, along with fast forwarding and rewinding. However, when I change the "zone" to my Pioneer N50, the playback controls are somewhat, lagged with a big latency of around 2 seconds, also I lose the ability to fast forward and rewind my music.

I have a full cat 6 wired gigabit network from the streamer to the PC, and a router capable of ac speeds, although my idevices run at 'n' speeds. The system is able to stream to my iPad/iPhone with virtually negligible latency (with transcoding of the flacs and AAC files turned OFF) but its getting problems; no way near as slick as playing on my idevices.

I really hope I can get some help here.

Thanks.

Sounds like a limitation of the pioneer DLNA renderer. check if they have an updated firmware for your pioneer that might improve the DLNA.

I agree, I think it's an issue with the response of the renderer. I see a similar thing with the WDTV Live, after starting a track it's a few seconds before the progress bar moves, and there is a delay in fastforward/rewind, although pause seems instant. If I use my TV as a DMR, the response is much better but it has no fastforward/rewind capability.
