Media Center 18 189 hangs after re-install [Solved]
« on: May 23, 2013, 03:24:05 am »

I installed Media Center 18 189 for the first time and included a search for all media types. It found about 8000 files on my computer.
I decided that I only want Media Center to manage my AIFF files, so tried to uninstall, which worked, restarted the computer, re-installed specifying only .aiff and now media center hangs a few seconds after it starts.
I have tried multiple uninstalls & reinstalls but it always hangs.
Is there a list of all the files that need to be deleted before starting a reinstall?

Welcome to the forum.  You can clear your library to start again.  It's in the File menu.

As soon as I click on clear library the program hangs. Shows in task manager as "not responding"

Uninstall and choose the option to remove settings when you do.  Then reinstall.

What is the option to remove settings?

When I choose to uninstall the program, the only two buttons that appear are
1. Remove all Media Center registry entries
2. Remove Media Center library files

I have removed the "x" from each selection, clicked on Uninstall, rebooted the PC, run the install, and still the program hangs as soon I try to do something.
If I choose all file formats on the installation, the when MC starts it say that I have 44 seconds before it starts scanning, and hangs before the 44 seconds starts counting down.

I have tried all combinations to delete MC from my PC but still cant get it to work

Select both.

To be completely clear, you did exactly these steps:

1. Uninstall MC, picking both checkboxes to remove settings and the Library.
2. REBOOT.  DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.
3. Reinstall MC using the latest installer from this board.
4. And it crashes when opening the first time?

In that case, you have something badly hosed on your system, as the defaults don't even work.  Do you have any "registry cleaners" or other such similar malware installed on your machine?

Yes followed steps 1 - 3 exactly.
On step 4, Mc starts as says it is going to import media, and automatically start in 44 seconds, but the 44 does not start reducing.

I am running Windows 8 64-bit, with no registry cleaners, just have McAfee installed

McAfee may be causing a problem.

But cancel the import and set up Auto Import under Tools/Import.

Found the problem.
There was an 80GB ipod connected to the computer via usb port. When this was removed everything is working correctly
