I cant wake up my mac mini with Gizmo!
« on: May 23, 2013, 09:12:36 pm »

Hi,

I have a mac mini connected directly to my mac express.  I thought that Gizmo would help me wake up the mac mini, but it doesn't.  I have to  click on my mac mini's keyboard to wake it up so my Mac iphone remote app can pick up the mac mini (the remote app doesnt wake it up either via ip or code).

I have searched the threads and the only solution I saw was Gizmo.  I works...until the mac mini falls asleep...Help!

A couple of things:

1. Are you using an Apple Router, ie Airport Extreme?
2. Are you using Ethernet or wireless for your Mac? If yes do you have either Wake for Network Access or Wake for Wi-Fi Network access enabled on your Mac (via System Preferences -> Energy Save Preferences)
3. Try this application - it runs on a Mac - and see if it will wake your Mac (this of course implies you have a second Mac you can test it with)

While I am not absolutely certain, from reviewing Apple documents having an Apple router may be a requirement for this feature to work:

Wake on Demand requires an Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule with firmware 7.4.2 or later installed. To use Wake on Demand wirelessly with a WPA or WPA2 network, the AirPort base station or Time Capsule must be hosting the network (see below).
