Teac UD-501 DSD DAC
« on: May 30, 2013, 09:32:30 pm »

Is anyone using the new Teac UD-501 with JRiver for Mac yet, please?  If so, how are you doing with DSD over DoP (i.e. is it playing fine)?

Thanks a bundle...

My Teac UD-501 arrived today...

I plugged in the RCA cables, the USB cable, and the power cable, flipped the power switch on, and played DSD 64 and 128 files first time in JRiver for Mac off a 2010 Mac Mini. Plays PCM up to 32/384kHz (tested up to 384kHz by fixing the output from the up sampling in JRiver to 384kHz).

After about ten minutes, the sound seemed to mellow and open a bit and overall it sounds sublime! I'd recommend to anyone for either DSD or PCM playback.

Best,
John

"... RCA cables"? ... Connecting what?

Sounds like an interesting result  :)

Very cool.

I've been using my Lynx Hilo with MC 18 playing DSD.  Works very well.

Ha!  I mean my patch cords from my DAC to my 2A3 amplifier...currently a Bottlehead Stereomour lightly moddified to my tastes.  I used the unbalanced, rather than the balanced connections!

Very nice...very nice indeed!

Your photo makes me think two things: first, I need to pick up that SACD and rip it to DSD!  Second, I was advised to rip to .dsf if I wanted to imbed the tags in the files themselves.  Since I keep my iso rips, I simply re-extracted them to .dsf and won't have to worry about retagging if I move to the Windows version of JRiver.

Here is the syntax I use in terminal:

./sacd_extract -2 -s -c -i"FileNameHere.iso"
