I have tried Gizmo  both on my Google Nexus tablet and my Note 2 and both have very bad playback.  First I get the loading screen then video starts and right away starts stopping and starting playback every few seconds.

I have searched the forums and see some people recommend pausing the video for a minute then resuming playback and this does work however after a few minutes of playback I need to keep repeating the process. 

I have a dual band ASUS router with my server plugged in via Ethernet and receiving android's have good WIFI reception.  I have even tried both 2 and 5ghz channels on my router and have the same problem. 

It looks like Gizmo just doesn't buffer anything and if I turn the quality to low things are much better with fewer interruptions but still not perfect and I feel my local network should be able to serve better quality video then Youtube and Netflix 

Any tips would be much appreciated and if there is anyway to increase the buffer I think this problem would go away.

I have noticed this too, all of my devices (nexus 7, nexus 4, one XL) all skip when a HD video is played. I have played around with the video settings and am yet to find one that's stutter free. Interestingly if i use Bubble UPNP, and choose the JRiver DLNA server i get no stutters at all.... I have just changed to using PLEX till this gets sorted...

Appreciate your report as I  thought maybe it was just me.   I may give bubbleupnp a try as this looks to need a developer update.

If you're using MC17, it would be worth trying the latest build of MC18.  It's at the top of the MC18 board.

I am using the latest version of MC18.  I could try the Beta channel to see if there are any improvements.  Maybe I will first check the release notes see if there were any changes.

From my understanding and research through the forums is Gizmo does not actually use the same rendering as for example using a second JRiver or UPNP client as there I can specify rendering configuration etc from the server which get passed on.  I did basic confidence tests on this mentioned logic in another forum on a second JRiver instance and was able to change quality, settings encoding etc but Gizmo didn't seem to care how the server was setup it does its own thing it seems.  This means I can't really fine tune anything except for the quality level inside Gizmo application itself. 

Of course if I am wrong and there are any tweaks on the server end I would be happy to try any recommendations.

toodooleedoo same issues here. vid plays for few seconds, buffers, then plays for few secs.

Gizmo settings
Video: Initially set to Medium, (480p / 1.5Mbps).  No problems encountered.  Upped to High (720p / 5.0 Mbps) with no issue (was surprised)
Audio: Medium (128kbps)

I don't watch video on the tablet very often.  I'll watch more content in the next week & report findings
