Feature request: pc sound capture
« on: June 24, 2013, 02:18:18 pm »

I bought MC18 a couple of months ago since I'd like to support its development. From my perspective, there are still many things to work on (including this), but the single feature MC is completely lacking at the moment is to be able to stream any audio playing from a computer to an audio UPNP renderer.

I tried fidgetting with zones but it simply does not work with my setup.

I don't think the feature needs much explanation - Asset UPNP, Songcast (open source!), Jamcast, and I'm sure other programs do this just fine.

So I'd like to formally open a request for this feature. Will it be taken into account?

Does loopback not work? (I haven't tried using it for this)

If you mean that JRiver should act as a DLNA server/contyroller/renderer, enabling Media Network in the options should do the job

Perhaps I wasn't clear.
Here's a simple use case:
-Have a dlna audio renderer (Use it to play all your audio and use MC to act as a control point)
-Use MC to play youtube videos

There is currently no possibility to process the audio from the youtube video through the dlna renderer (dlna loopback is not implemented, see this and this).

It is possible to achive this with for example Asset Upnp, through their PC sound capture option, assuming there is a sound card in the PC (so what it does is in effect loopback).

Treating a DLNA renderer as "just another soundcard" is tricky.  DLNA isn't really designed for it.

Managing lip-sync will be tough for video.  For audio, it's easier but still non-trivial.

I'm not sure if we'll ever support a mode like that.
