Media buttons global control disable
« on: June 23, 2013, 05:40:15 pm »

Hi all,

I have just upgraded to JRiver 18. In version 17, the volume buttons on my keyboard controlled the JRiver volume control IF the window was active, and the windows volume control if the window was not active.

In version 18 I am not able to find away to implement this since the application seems to have a global hook on the media keys even if the program isn't the active window.

I would really appreciate any help with this since it is very annoying as I have JRiver open permanently and basically cannot use the media keys to control the Windows volume anymore at all.

Thanks

Type 'media key' in the Options search box.

Try the different modes.  'Disabled' for example to prevent volume handling.

You could also configure MC to run the system volume slider if that's the volume mode you prefer.

Excellent hadn't seen that, thanks. For anyone looking in the future I selected the "App commands" mode which gives the functionality I had before.

I've realised a problem remains; while I want this action for the volume buttons, I want the play/pause and next/previous buttons to be global. This was all working by default with v17. Any help on this would be great.

Thanks

I've also discovered as somewhat bigger problem. When I try to full screen anything in Red October HQ the computer instantly restarts! Again this was no issue before, my hardware is quite a high end desktop machine. I have BSOD screen disabled so if anyone is needing details to troubleshoot let me know and I'll try and remember how to enable it. I've searched the issue a little but haven't come across anything relevant.

Thanks

That is a hardware problem.  Try updating drivers.

I've just fresh formatted (and upgraded with the format) so I'm running the latest ATI drivers with an HD 5870 card.

Someone? I'm pretty computer literate but I don't really know how to go about something like this and the complexities of codecs with video hardware.

You might start a different thread for the BSOD problems.  Make sure your video card fans are running.

For the volume issue, my suggestions above (have MC control master volume or use a different media key mode) are the only current options.

Hi Guys,
I'm pretty new to using MC and I like what I'm seeing so far, so i will probably buy a licence.

I'm having a related challenge to that of the OP.
My audio is being output through WASAPI over HDMI to my AVR.

I have the volume set to Internal, so that i can adjust the volume of the output stream
The Media Keys settings seem to do exactly what i would expect with one catch.

MC intercepts the media keys when it is open and allows me to adjust up and down the volume.
However, when i exit from Media Centre, I still cant alter my system sounds any more.

I reboot the HTPC and my media keys on the keyboard work fine. Open MC, Close MC, and my media keys no longer work.

If i set the Media Keys setting to disabled, or app,  then the system volume is controlled and the media keys function just fine (but then i cant adjust the volume of the direct output stream as desired)

So as best i can tell all works as it is intended, except the hooks into the media keys seem to persist after MC18 is closed.

any advice would be appreciated

cheers
Andrew
