Linux, UPnP and djmount
« on: July 02, 2013, 11:01:12 pm »

It's been five years since I started this thread:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=46318.0

I'm attempting to get this same configuration to work now.  I have unfortunately found that even the work around I had before, the playlist option, no longer works.

John said in the original thread that a solution was in the works.  Any updates?

The conversion system for DLNA is totally different since that time.

It now presents files in a way that makes it impossible for the device to know there's any conversion happening at all.  This was done to make conversion work with more devices.

Pretty clever piece of software that  djmount.

I'm playing FLACs right now via Audacious running inside Ubuntu, running inside Parallels on my Mac.

Also working is on-the-fly converted FLAC -> MP3.

That's very encouraging MrC.  I have not yet tried Audacious, but I have been having difficulty with Rhythmbox and XMMS2.  I will try Audacious.

Are you using the "Generic" DLNA server profile?

I used both of the two profiles I have, which were derivations of Generic.  One removes Images and Video and never converts; the other always converts Audio when necessary (most like Generic).  Both worked.

I had success today with Audacious, the Generic DLNA server profile and djmount with the playlist option.

I really like the fact that MediaCenter's smartlists are available via DLNA.

Is this the same configuration you are using MrC?

Could I ask you to confirm that this configuration does not work for you either without the djmount playlist option?

And if you're feeling energetic, confirm that Rhythmbox nor XMMS2 will work at all?

I did not pass the playlist option to djmount; just ran it with logging in the foreground.  So I suppose this disagrees with "does not work for you either without the djmount playlist option".  It does work for me without it.

I'll quickly test the others now (if I can)...

Rhythmbox worked fine.

I'm having to install packages to test xmms2.

I've given up on xmms2.  Move on.
