Stuttering with background processes
« on: July 09, 2013, 01:52:45 pm »

Since the reinstall of my HTPC I'm experiencing heavy stuttering when 2 particular background processes do their thing. One is par2 (repair process) and the other is unrar (unpack). These processes read/write to different disks than where music is stored and their priority is lowest.

I'm on Windows 8, using Xonar Uni drivers, ASIO. I've tried:
- set ASIO latency to 80ms (max)
- Buffering under ASIO Settings to maxed
- Use large hardware buffers
- Set prebuffering to 10 or 20 seconds
- Enabled memory playback
- A number of random combo's with the above options.

It looks like DirectSound plays fine but I still need to try Wasapi but if someone has some good suggestions to fix it with ASIO that would be great.

Thanks!

Both Wasapi and DirectSound play fine, even with default buffering settings so its exclusively with ASIO :(.
