I am playing video via 5.1 rca inputs. What are the best settings for playing music?

Should I use the same settings or use a zone a input different settings?

playing music now sounds awful.

Using wasapi 5.1output.

Something is not right tried different bit depths tried setting 2.1in jrss no difference.

If we use source chanels it does not use the back speakers

5.1 does but sounds like its playing in another room

I use the same settings for both and everything sounds great. I use RCA connections to my amps with WASAPI output and the output format set to 5.1 channels with JRSS mixing enabled with no sample rate changes. I also use track based volume levelling.

Did you make any recent changes to your a/v setup? (ie. if music and movies sounded good before and now music doesn't, what happened?) Is your receiver applying any "surround modes" etc. that work better for movies than music?

Hopefully someone else can give you more specific help.

Do I have to tick Jrss to mix 2 chanel stereo to 2.1?

No, if  you do that you will only get the front left and right and the sub. I don't think that is what you want.

If it's working for others in the same mode, it seems like your AVR's settings might be causing the problem. Do you have any DSP set up in the AVR, eg concert hall, jazz club, Dolby PLIIX etc.

Well tried again today but I disabled zone switching and now it works music is back no muffled voices

Can someone test this and see if its a bug with auto zone switching.

Amp has no settings stored as you cant set anything when its on DVD 6 chanel

I think its fixed just had to do the equaliser for both movies and music.

What in your opinion is the best movie settings for watching movies with DTS sound, sorry if I sound dumb just used to using spdif and seeing the glowing lights telling me that it is playing DTS

I am getting really frustrated with this. Every time we go to play music it seems to have lost all settings. They are still there but the sound is terrible.

Reboot HTPC try all the settings again. take off auto zoneswitch and its back to normal.

What is going on?

Most settings are unique to each zone. If it's "losing" settings when you start playing music, it seems like that zone has not been reconfigured?

playing a song sounds great then as the songs powerful music emits everything is really distorted.
Clip protection is not on nor is volume protection.

Is there something in windows that could be messing up.

If you are using the equalizer to boost some frequency ranges to make things sound better in your room, you run the risk of clipping (too loud a signal can overdrive the amp section in either your soundcard, the input channel on the receiver or the output section of the receiver resulting in distortion and potentially damage)

I strongly suggest that you turn on clip protection and volume leveling to minimize the risk of clipping and distortion. See how that works before looking at removing any eq, bass, treble, loudness boost on the receiver then turning down the volume on the receiver.

AVR settings? Music. Stereo or ?

FWIW I have SPDIF feeding my AV Amp and for 2-channel sources (music or movies) I output as-is and switch AV amp to 5-channel stereo or a Pro-Logic mode as I see fit (whether Music or Cinema doesn't matter as I don't have a centre speaker!). For multi-channel sources I bitstream to the amp.

But it all depends on your own personal choice.

The 2-channel zone has in DSP/Output Format "Source number of channels". The multichannel zone is bitstreaming.
