MJ Native MPEGplus encoder
« on: March 18, 2002, 12:24:57 pm »

MJ Native MPEGplus encoder is available for download from our encoder plug-ins web page:
http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/enc_plugins.html

Does everything the plug-in is suppose to do.

Uses MPEGplus command line encoder 0.90s

Great !

Thanks Nikolay, with Mike's plugin now in the distribution we have the full set
of mpc/mp|PLS| tools right in MJ8.

Now is there anything special to configure it? I see standard, any other commands that may / need be entered?

This is where you can enter the command line options... for example: "--xtreme" or "--insane" or something fancy like "--insane --minSMR 0 --nmt 12 --tmn 24"

If you look in your Media Jukebox directory, under the Plugins subdirectory, you'll see a file named "mppenc.exe." Run that in a command prompt window and you'll get a list of all the different options you can play with (although just using that built-in profiles is usually fine).

Must be something wrong. Everytime I try to rip it gets about halfway through the first song then stops. If I click cancel it just goes back and analyzes the devices. Any thoughts?

I thought I'd elaborate a bit Next Page

The standard (default) option is usually fine, but there are some others you might like.

--thumb <-- low bitrate, doesn't sound so good
--radio <-- low bitrate, sounds better, but not spectacular
--standard <-- medium bitrate (150-175 kbps), sounds good (default)
--xtreme <-- high bitrate (185-215 kbps), transparent on 99% of any music you're likely to encode
--insane <-- high bitrate (220-240 kbps), highest quality switch, encodes the full bandwidth; useful for if you plan to transcode to MP3 (for a portable device or whatever).

I use the Xtreme profile. I've never run into a sample that wasn't perfectly encoded using Xtreme.

I guess I should have been more clear. There is something preventing me from using this encoder. I had just left it in default for the time being and it would not rip. The plug-in shows up in the manager and is installed.

Whoops. I see I was looking in the wrong place for configuring. However, the encoder is still stalling out. Tried the shutdown and re-start to see if it helps trick. Nope. Is this a bug?

I seem to be having the same problems as MachineHead it goes about 3/4 of the way through then locks up I press cancel and I have to use CTRL_ALT_DEL to quit.

I do appreciate this plug-in and if we could get the OGG set up using the quality settings ie q1.00 to g10.00 this really would finish things up for me.

Keep up the good work.

Just went back to the Lame encoder and ripped with no problems. Gotta feeling its a big ol' bug. I didn't have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE though. sdcoochie do you have vis' running?

Yes, it looks like a bug. You'll have to talk to Nikolay about it--he wrote the encoder plugin.

No Vis running just my page info screen and really a vis wouldn't be running while encoding anyway I think. I also have no problems with any other of the encoders.

I meant to say do you have vis enabled? Since this past weekend with the vis disabled I have not had a major hang with MJ. Couple of times it gave me an error code but not where I had to C_A_D to get out of it.

I contacted Frank Klemm ( the author of the mppenc.exe ) and explained the problem.

Please wait, it should be fixed in near future.

I don't understand this at all. Do you need to have 8.0.227 beta for this plugin to work? I have downloaded it. It says package installed successfully. I see the lib file "Enc_mpc.dll" in the plugins directory. I click add plugin and it does nothing?

I am running 8.0.218

King,

That doesn't answer my question.
I asked if you need beta 227, I am running 218 from a couple weeks ago.
I am NOT running version 7

Anyone else has advice?

Have you selected it from the options window when ripping?

It is not on the list and won't load. I have been ripping with mppenc.exe in the External. I have tried to install it manually in the Plugins manager. I will not load, but does not list an error either.

Replies must have crossed. It could be that you need 227. Also, I don't use an external so I don't know if that might have something to do with it.

it works like it should for me, being on 227.

But obviously as Nikolay stated, something is not quite right yet, and it will be corrected soon.

Unless there is a specific reason for you still being on a older beta, I would give 227 a shot.

Thanks for the assistance everyone.

It was indeed that I had to use the latest beta. I don't mean to be counter productive but the buggy versions have left me on the edge of psychosis at times. So when I find a version that is 100% functional for my needs I like to stick with it.

Testing out this Plugin I get same results as a few others.

34% encoded on track 1 appears to be hung. It hasn't moved in 10 minutes.
TaskMan says the program is running fine. No excessive CPU or memory use. (1% CPU and 12 MB ram)

you may want to get the next version also (tonight-tomorrow) since move-copy is not working in 8.0.227

MachineHead thanks for your assistance. I actually only use track info plugins but I'm not quite sure by what  you mean by do I have it enabled. Can I shut this off somewhere in options I rarely use the VIS stuff.

Matt had posted late last week about disabling the vis' to see if that would reduce some of the.DLL problems some were having. And yes, you can disable them. You can right click or use the button in the lower left hand corner of the window that displays track info. The display plug-in has to be set to visualizations for the disable feature to show up. Just check the disable visualization.
