JRiver for Audio only
« on: July 22, 2013, 10:18:46 am »

Hi,

I want to use JRiver for Audio only.

What can I disable, or optimize, to improve JRiver footprint, resources...?

Maybe a wizard in future version will also help...

Thanks for your support!

Regards

Thanks!

Where can I see some information/help about each feature, so I can decide if I can deselect it or not?

Try using them.  You can always add them back if you make a mistake.

If you are using something to remote control JRiver, like JRemote, I think you will lessen the footprint and reduce the resource consumption of JRiver if you just run it as as Media Server. Click Tools > Advanced Tools > Media Server to get this going, then close JRiver itself. You'll still be able to use your remote app to browse, play and control things. This strategy is suggested in the JRemote FAQ. If otoh you just want to get rid of onscreen 'clutter', Cover View is a pretty good way to go.

Thank you both!  ;D

I uninstalled all features, except "Media Network" to use JRemote...

On Startup, deselect "Show Action Center" not worked...

Thanks for the report, I can reproduce this.  We'll look into it.

just for info I don't think uninstalling all features has a lot to do with  JRemote .. what reduces the resource consumption for jremote is really running media server alone rather than launching MC + media server. an easy way to do this is to launch program as configured for media network and close the program. Mediaserver will continue to run in the background. Or, simply launch MediaServer.exe directly from windows (can be done on win start-up).

Reducing features when running jrmc will reduce consumption on the PC (a little -- on an i5 I noticed only insignificant changes) but taking off a couple of them of like party mode is not going to change anything really - reducing ongoing (automatic) processes like building thumbnails, volume analysis will make a difference of course a little off-topic I guess I run those manually  ;)

I suppose it depends on your processor and if you have small amount of RAM available - but I've found that its active processes especially drawing, animation slideshows, encoding/decoding videos etc are top of the list. But if they are not actually running disabling them won't matter, I wouldn't think. What seems to matter is if you configured a lot of automatic processes like I said : things that come to mind are autoimport running in the background (add importing tags and artwork and things like that can get pretty intensive (comparatively speaking), syncing over the network, amongst others -- even if they are low priority processes.

Doesn't seem to matter for me though with an i5+8go Ram +Win 7 if I use 11% of the CPU its pretty much the max.
I'm interested in this more because I'm tinkering with building a low power (PSU 60 to 120 watts) for a silent PC with a tiny motherboard using my TV as a monitor.

I agree with you, but I like to enable only what I need...

Sometimes this could leads to issues...

I generally find that disabling features in programs and the OS tends to cause issues. Media Center uses so few resources in its default state, that I don't see the point in disabling anything.

This still happens on latest version...

'Show Action Window' restores a minimized Action Window.

Uncheck the option if you want the program to allow the Action Window to stay minimized (assuming it was last minimized) when launching.
