Just a guess.  We'll try to reproduce the problem.

OK, I've been able to reproduce it. I can also reproduce it in older versions, so it is not specific to 18.0.215.

Scenario is as follows:

1) Inbuilt speaker volume is off (e.g. muted)
2) Use keyboard, or slider to increase volume --> still muted
3) Use mute option in MC to un-mute --> still muted
4) Use iTunes to un-mute using any method (slider, un-mute, keyboard) --> sound works in iTunes and now MC is OK.

So, it looks like the problem is with the mute control in MC. If it is muted, MC will not un-mute it.

EDIT:  But wait there's more…
7 tracks into the very same album and MC is now doing the 5 sec. happy dance.
Which means in order to 'clear' this error I'll have to re-start the Mac and the router, and since its late, I guess it's time to stop listening for the night.

So it happens again on the 1st album I play today.
But this time all I do is shut down MC
AND
re-start my router.  (I did NOT shutdown nor re-start the Mac)

Then I bring up MC and music plays just fine when I start playing the same album again.
