Question about R128 volume normalization
« on: September 06, 2013, 02:00:03 pm »

First of all, many thanks for implementing this feature, it is truely much better than replay gain!!

I have many collections of random songs from various albums that I store together as single albums in MC, so it's less overwhelming to browse my library (I for instance have an album by Various Artists called "unsorted" with more than 100 tracks). Naturally, I'd prefer to play such tracks by means of their individual level, without taking the volume of other tracks from the same album into account. Is there a way of doing this?

Perhaps setup a separate zone with different settings?

I actually just want to know how to switch the source from album to track.

Its automatic. If the tracks are from the same album it operates in album mode. If album varies, it switches to track mode.

There is not currently any way to mark tracks in an album to bypass using album leveling. (e.g. a Mixtape)
If the files in a playlist are from different albums, they will use track-based leveling.

If you set the Media Sub Type as Podcast for an album, that should force track-based leveling though. (but I realize it's not ideal)

I think the fact that it's automatic is pretty neat - but there ought to be a custom mode as an alternate option, allowing the user to toggle between album and track leveling as much as he pleases.

Well the point is to have a system that you don't need to think about.

I think it's only a couple of minor tweaks away from being there.
