Security port scan crashes MJ 8.0.224
« on: March 14, 2002, 11:10:04 am »

I cant find the thread I started on this, but I still need a solution.  Port scans will crash MJ everytime.  I have experimented with this and find MJ is far more stable when disconnected from the network.  Does MJ listen on specific ports, does it alternate ports, are you aware of any problems in this area?

I love this product, but I am concerned about this port issue.

Thanx

MJ only listens to a specific port when the Web Remote plug-ins is running. The new version of the plugin should address that problem. I had tried WhatsUp GOld and find no port leaking, at least not anymore. Do you have other app running while you were scanning the ports?

Ray,

Only WhatsUp Gold and Zone Alarm.  Also note that this happens even when the web-remote plug-in is not running.  I have also scanned the system from another machine when only MJ was running.  You said "at least not anymore", what version has the fix in it?

Thanks for answering.

Sorry, I meant when the plugin was running, now it no longer leaks.
Anyway, can you tell what port it was scanning when MJ crashes?

Try uninstalling (not just disabling) ZoneAlarm.  We've seen odd things before that were solved by doing this.
