JRiver Media Center will not read sidecar files
« on: September 11, 2013, 12:46:58 pm »

Hello,

I currently have JRiver Media Center 19 installed. I also use Media Center Master to organize my metadata. Newer versions of Media Center Master allow for creation of JRiver sidecar files for my TV shows and movies.

I am having trouble with Media Center 19 reading these sidecar files. I even tried manually right clicking on a TV show and selecting Library Tools > Update Library (from tags), but the show refuses to update with my sidecar file info. I do see that when I use Library Tools > Update Tags (from library), it does overwrite my sidecar file, so I know the file name is correct. I also compared a JRiver created sidecar file with a Media Center Master sidecar file, and the formatting is the same.

Can someone please advise on what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you,
Jeremy

I'm guessing you've edited the sidecar file with an external editor?

You'll want to use one that saves in the same file format as the sidecar was produced.

I don't see JRiver listed at the Media Center Master site. You could try requesting support from them for JRiver sidecar writing.

Yes, I am using Media Center Master to create the sidecar files. I ensured that both are XML files with the following header (which is exactly the same in both the sidecar created with MCM and the sidecar created with JRiver).

<MPL Version="2.0" Title="JRSidecar">

Media Center Master already has JRiver sidecar support. I have it creating JRiver sidecar files in the proper format. It may not be listed on the features page of their site, but it is definitely in there. I have even tried editing a sidecar made with JRiver with the correct information, and then trying to update library from file, to no avail. JRiver just sticks with the incorrect information.

Thank you,

Could you mail a sample sidecar to logs (at) jriver [dot] com, and include a link to this thread?

We could use it to test the same on our side.

Thanks.

Figured it out. There is a bug in Media Center Master when it creates JRiver sidecar files for TV shows. It does not put
at the end, it puts another
. I modified one of the sidecar files to properly have the
and it imported properly.

Thank you for the assistance, I will notify the Media Center Master people of this bug.

Nice detective work.

Hopefully it'll be a quick fix for them.
