I rolled back to built 18.0.216 and the issue is gone. What's strange also is that only one of my two macbook pros is affected by the problem, both are running MAC OSX 10.8.4.

It looks like you have a skin effect turned on.
You can turn it off in the main menu under View > Skin > Skin Effects.

Solution was so obvious. Sorry about that.
Thank you

Hi
I downloaded the 18.0.218 (9/11/2013) and have it installed in my mac mini (Mac Mini 2011 mid 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 8G RAM 1333 MHz DDR3 500G HDD Mac OSX Lion)
But i cannot use it as it keeps kicking me out of the programme after each 10 second.
I uninstalled and reinstalled again but same problem coming out.
Please advise.

Sounds like you've got what I've got. I have sent John an error log... maybe do the same?
johnjen:
So I bring up 218 and select an album to play from the panes window.
The I 'play' the album and immediately the spinning beach ball starts a whirl'n.
It doesn't stop, so I have to force quit MC because its locked up.
I go back in and the album I selected never got to the network player window.
So I select it again and then 'play' the album.
And the PWD DAC is locked up and MC goes into the spinning beach ball when I stop it playing the album.
After a minute or 2 it recovers and the DAC is back up, and this time it plays.
Go figure.
EDIT and then after 4 tracks MC looses its connection to the DAC…
Restart, again.
