Will 32 bit processing VST's work in JRiver?
« on: September 18, 2013, 01:13:37 pm »

I have some VST's that are not working in JRiver. I get an "output format not supported" message. I notice that these are 32 bit processing VST's (two). I suspect that the 32 bit VST's cannot accept the 64 bit internal processing.

So if JRiver internally uses 64 bit processing, are the VST's presented data at 64 bit float depth? Is there a way to down convert to 32 bit depth for these VST's, or have JRiver use 32 bit internal processing--assuming that is the problem?

32-bit VSTs are fully supported.

Data is simply converted to and from 32-bit as it passes through the effect.

Thank you Matt.

Can you help me narrow down why the "output format is not supported" message is displayed on these VST's? These VST's work in my DAWs Audacity and Audition.

Make sure the number of channels going through the chain is a number of channels they support.  As a test, you could use DSP Studio > Output Format to force 2 channel.

I have 2 channel (stereo) selected, No upmixing or Downmixing and Source Bitdepth.  I have tried various changes here, but it does not seem to make a difference. I have tried source material at 44.1, 48, and 96 sampling rates and 16 and 24 bit depth. Does not seem to make a difference. The VST's support 16, 24, 32 bit integer depth, and 32 bit float depth.

Could you provide a sample of the VST to logs at jriver dot com?  I'll test here (and delete it when finished).

Thanks.

The VST plugins you provided return 1, a failure code, when we set the sample rate using effSetSampleRate.

Here's the specification:
http://www.asseca.org/vst-24-specs/efSetSampleRate.html

It says "always returns 0, unless otherwise defined."

Thank you, I will send this on to the developer of these VST's.

I runned into same issue.

a lot of VST do not run at an other sampelrate than 44kHz/48kHz. Thats the problem.

To try it independently you can run them in another host (Plogue was what I used).

You can then change the sampelrate and see if its still working.

If the VST in JRiver are workinmg at 44/48kHz and not at anotehr samplerate you know it the VST plug-in...

The effect: the VST hangs JRiver! You will get a crash of JRiver

A well behaved effect should return a failure from effSetSampleRate and we will disable it.

You might report the problem to the author of the VST if it's hanging instead.
