difference between native DSD and DoP

What is the difference between DSD and DSD over PCM?

What JRiver changes in audio stream before sending the DAC when I click either radio button?

Options/Settings/Bitstreaming/Bitstreaming formats

DSD transmits the DSD audio as a 1-bit 2.8MHz signal.
DSD over PCM sends the DSD audio as a 24-bit 176kHz multiplexed signal. (16-bit 176kHz for the DSD audio, and the rest is used to indicate that it is DSD and not PCM)

The audio is the same, the way it is transmitted is different. Many newer DACs seem to only have support for DoP.

Do you mean JRiver converts DSD to 176kHz PCM in "DoP" format? While it is transmitted without any change by JRiver in "DSD" format?

I wouldn't even call it converted, its basically just chopped in 16-bit parts + 8-bit info to tell its DSD and sent as PCM @ 176 kHz. The music itself is unchanged.

I suppose its more a wrapper.

You mean: it's identical to a 176kHz PCM file but contains extra 8 bit data which tells DAC that this 176kHz PCM stream shouldn't be treated like a 176kHz PCM, it is so though.
Since DAC treats this 176kHz PCM stream like DSD, it sounds like DSD  ? Then Why DSD files are bigger? because of this 8 bit info? Is it more than one 176kHz PCM for single?

It is not being converted to PCM. The DSD audio is being put inside a PCM container, but it is not PCM audio.

DSD is 1-bit audio with a sample rate of 2.8224MHz

2.8224 ÷ 16 = 0.1764, or 176.4 kHz.

The data is identical, it's just being packed into a 16-bit data stream, rather than a 1-bit data stream, which lets it be transmitted at a slower rate.

How come you say it's identical when one is 1 bit and the other is 16 bit data stream?

Because it's still 1-bit audio, being packed into a 16-bit data stream. It's not being converted from 1-bit audio to 16-bit audio.
