sound is muted for a few seconds at random during playback, this happens at the moment with sacd iso 96khz 24bit, flac. playing in standard view. no errors are given. happens anywhere from beginning to end of the song. at the moment it reoccurred once an hour.

sound is still falling away for a second, not sure if the music is continuous or if it stops, for that second or so. have tried increasing buffering for the device settings but that did not help, turned on option play from memory see if that helps.

mc19 is not working properly with playback without the option playback from memory on. cannot remember having this problem before. running from local hard drive. output mode WASAPI, USB connected to preamp classe cp800. tried 250ms and 500ms buffering 250ms did not help and with 500ms I am getting no sound at all.

What's your system spec? Use the help menu and it can even generate a Jmark score to help assess how robust your system is.

You are getting random dropouts or between track changes?

Cheers

Pluto, if you hit pause immediately after playback, then hit pause again. does audio start?

Test the DPC latency of your system using e.g. http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon

Pluto7.   I had what sounds like the same issue when I built my current system many years ago.

If your music drive used only for music or is it all on the same disk as your OS?

After trying everything I could think of, what others thought of... Jim finally suggested it might be a disk spin up issue... I was skeptical...  I could count on the audio cutout in about 5 minutes when first starting MC and then random times after that.

So I made sure my music drive was spun up and presto, no more audio glitches.  I turned on memory playback and never had the problem again.  With memory playback the entire track is loaded into memory at track startup time.

Since then I've got a different hard drive, and a few month ago I turned memory playback off... no more problem.  So my old music hard drive must have been SLOW to spin up and my newer 3tb drive is faster.

If memory playback works for you, I wouldn't worry about it, just leave it on.

I have an completely new up to date system

AMD 8150FX 8 core processor x64
gskill 1866 ripjaws cl8 16GB [4x4GB]
seagate 1x 1TB 7200rpm OS
seagate 2x 3TB 7200rpm data
asrock 990FX extreme 4 mainbord
windows 7 x64 ultimate

I cannot believe that the cause of this problem is my system.

I will try the latency test but I personally think it will be a waste of time.

the problem only exists with memory playback turned off. but it is advised to turn this off because it is not necessary to be used.

Reason i asked was, because the last few versions in 19. we have had the same problem.  with Tv and all video. hit play nothing comes out(audio), hit pause, then play again then we get audio.

I ran the test here are the results

CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for  0:01:22  (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   1864,280388
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   8,074646

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       403,357301

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
MEASURED SMI, IPI AND CPU STALLS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The SMI, IPI and CPU stalls value represents the highest measured interval that a CPU did not respond while having its maskable interrupts disabled.

Highest measured SMI or CPU stall (µs)                11,687385

 REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Did you read it ?   After only 92 seconds, it decided:

" Your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates. "

yes I did read it. I have tried everything and nothing helped. the software "latency mon" gave that message directly after starting up jriver. the latency monitor also screws up my system, my mouse had decided it was going to work with new rules. again I have one of the fastest sytems available including my sdram dd3 1866 cl8  4x4GB an very modern motherboard Asrock fx990 extreme 4 and processor amd FX8150. but I will keep my playback from memory on in MC I am not experiencing any problems then.

Uh.... did you try its suggestion - " disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup " ?
