MC17 constantly crashes when launching (also post reboot) and if it opens it crashes when doing any action and gives error messages including, "Media Center has detected that it did not shut down correctly after it was last run" and "Failed to load skin 'Noire'. Reverting to default skin." when I try to uninstall. Media Center will not uninstall, nor will MC16. I'm in limbo

First, update to the latest 17.0.89 from the top of this board.

Then, use Help > Logging if you still experience crashes.  Email a crash log to logs at jriver dot com.

Has this issue been corrected by anybody?  I am experiencing the same things, I have tried to unistall / reinstall  3X to no avail.. I cannot get this software to work properly.  It gives BSD each and every time.

I attempted to upgrade my Windows 8 to the just-released Windows 8.1, but the upgrade was not successful. However, JR19 was dinged so that I get the above error message every time I try to do something. Sometimes I can ignore and I can go ahead. Other times I get a crash.
