Integer Mode with MSB Analog DAC
« on: October 24, 2013, 07:12:08 pm »

I don't believe it is working for me. I am able to enable integer mode in options successfully. However playback appears to be a 32 bit (see attached screenshot). I am running Mavericks. I will also send a log file from beginning of playback.

It says the output has direct connection.  That's correct isn't it?

Please capture a lot using this updated output plugin:

I shall, trying to find where on my disk that folder is located.

Look inside the Media Center app package (right click it).  Then you go down a few levels until you get to the application.  From there, look in the Plugins folder.

Thanks Matt - replaced the existing file with the new one, re-started Mac, launched MC, cleared log file, then start playback on a file, created new log file and emailed to logs at jriver . com

Thanks.  That one looks easy to support.  We'll try to put out another build tomorrow that'll hopefully get it going.

Each device has a a little different set of descriptors for its buffer format.  We only tested a few devices on our side and they were the same, so I was hoping (incorrectly) that all devices would follow the same model.

Thank you so much Matt! I also tested with Audirvana and Pure Music just now and they appear to be working with integer mode. Really, really appreciate the fast response, you guys are unbelievable!

Similar results with The Analog DAC as Barr had.

I believe this DAC and many others should enter integer mode with the next build of MC (available a little later today).

Testing appreciated.

Hello, I posted my results in the new 19.0.62 thread with screenshots. It would appear to still not be working but let me know if I am wrong. Certainly the 24/192 files should not show output as 16 bit padded. Thanks for the ongoing support, it is much appreciated.

Damn, I feel so bad about this. Sadly this time 16/44.1 files are horribly distorted regardless of whether integer mode is enabled, and there is no sound output at all for DSD files regardless on whether integer is on or not. I posted screenshots of integer mode on for a 16/44.1 file and 24/192 file, they both now show output as 24 bit (padded).

Could you send me another log?  My guess is the padding is being placed on the wrong side of the 24 bits, but I'm not sure.

A log might give me a few clues.

Thanks.

Standard log or do I need to copy over that special library file again?

Logfile (attached) - DSD playback (DoP) - no integer mode - No sound from DAC (that also happens with integer enabled - no sound).

I do get sound with PCM files, just distorted.

Tested. Still getting distortion with integer mode, non integer mode works properly. Log file has been sent. (MSB Analog DAC)

Latest build 19.0.67 equals success. I have posted this in the main 19.0.67 thread as well because I had a couple of questions.

I believe I have good news to report on in regards to this build. Integer mode works with my MSB Analog DAC! Thank you. No distortion, music flows.

Couple of quick questions to confirm:

1. 16/44.1 file shows output of 44.1KHz 24 bit (padded) 2 ch using Core Audio (direct connection)

2. 24/192 file shows out of 192 KHz 24 bit (padded) 2 ch using Core Audio (direct connection)

3. DSD64  (DSF) file shows176.4 KHz 24bit (padded) 2 ch using Core Audio (bitstreaming)

Are these indicators that it is working properly? And do my 24/192 files show padded because the MSB Analog DAC is a 32/384 DAC?

And finally thank you so much for all the efforts, much appreciated. Now I will go off and listen to this for a while!

Yes.  If you see 24-bit or 24-bit (padded), integer mode is working.

The "padded" is because each 24-bit sample is in a 32-bit package with some devices.  This is common because computers are good at dealing with 32-bit data.

Thank you.  I'm sorry it took so many builds to get it sorted.

No apologies needed, this is great, took less than a week to get it going, what more could one ask! And thanks for the explanation, appreciated.
