I've posted this issue a few weeks ago in the MC 18 forum, but I don't get any reaction from Jim, Matt or whoever. So that's why I post it here too.
This is my problem:

- on computer A I make changes in the lyrics field (or album) of a song in MC
- the tag of the song's mp3 is updated automatically
- I backup the database
- on computer B I restore the database

What I want to happen on computer B is that the metadata of MC are 'pushed' to all mp3's. In this case the lyrics and album info of the song I changed on computer A.
This is what happens, though: MC reads the tag info of the mp3 and 'pushes' that into the database.

A suggestion was that I should turn of 'auto tagging' - but that doesn't help. That wouldn't make any sense either.

I'm getting very frustrated though. I've checked 2,000 songs on their lyrics and thought I 'pushed' the info to the mp3's of the other p.c. B But when I backed that up and restored in on p.c. everything was messed up again.

Please, tell me how I can avoid this. Or is it a bug in MC?

This isn't a supported use case -- restoring a library but, from what I can gather, having it point to a second unrelated set of files.

You could try turning off auto-import on computer B and doing Update Tags (from files) after restoring the library from A.  It would update the files on B.

You could also consider moving to a single set of files and/or library.

Maybe I don't understand everything you're trying to do, but wouldn't this be solved by simply doing "Update tags from library" on computer B? Then all the copies of the mp3s on computer B will have their tags modified to reflect what's in your library. Currently the behaviour you describe is consistent with the way MC works (and should work).
The other solution would be to overwrite the mp3s on computer B with the modified equivalents from computer A. This can be done easily if the two computers are networked together.

Thanks for your fast answer, Matt, but indeed: you don't understand what I mean.
First of all: the computers aren't in a network: one is at my home, the other is at the office. My library consists of 25,000 songs, so copying isn't an option either.

"Update tags from library" is not the solution, because the problem is the other way around: the DATABASE is filled with the TAG-info as soon as the library is restored. And I don't want that to happen.

To clarify it a bit more, this is what happened RIGHT AFTER the last restore: I checked the lyrics of song A and the album of song B and they were restored correctly.
However, after a few minutes the database info was altered automatically: the lyrics of song A were wrong again, as well as the album of song B.

I hope you understand what I mean and that you can give me a solution, because this MC-behaviour is very frustrating.

Turn off the auto-import option 'Update for external changes'.

Or only run auto-import manually on machine B so that you can first write tags with "Update Tags (from library)" after restoring the library.

In fact: I turned off Auto-Import totally - I don't need that option anyway.
