Music Streamer+ WASPI stutters ASIO1for all not
« on: November 04, 2013, 01:18:07 pm »

The latest several versions of MC 19 have led to stuttering with my Music Stream + II. I have tried a number of variaitons to reduce the stuttering to no avail .I then tried ASIO14all. After proper tweaking this seems to work ok.

What are the pros an cons of ASIO1all with MC 19.

My computer is a rather fast one with 8 gigs of memory and a SSD running windows pro 64 bit.

ASIO4all is kernel streaming.  You could use kernel streaming in MC.

The stuttering is probably related to the buffer size.  Try changing it.

I have experienced a similar issue - with b66. I am also using WASAPI.
The computer is an hp laptop, w7 pro x64, ssd. I noticed this when playing back SACD iso files.  In my case the stuttering was more like the needle jumping on a vinyl, perhaps once a track.
The device settings buffering is set to 250ms
Play files from memory instead of disk happens to be set as well.

Large buffer did not stop stuttering . Asio14all works.

Did you try a smaller buffer?

Started with recommended 50 ms, then 250 then 500. All stuttered. ASIO14all is set at 512 samples.

Kernel Streaming, WASAPI, and ASIO4ALL all use kernel streaming to connect to the hardware.

Each uses a different Audio output method in the music player (KS, WASAPI and ASIO).

Microsoft introduced a new form of kernel streaming in Vista that they called "Windows Audio Session API".  Despite a track record to the contrary, some people seem to believe the Microsoft P.R. that they "got it right this time".

The author of ASIO4ALL, Michael Tippach stated on April 27, 2010, quote: "ASIO4ALL sits on top of the same Kernel Streaming interface that WASAPI sits on top of and thus also completely bypasses WASAPI."

Developers here and elsewhere have spent hundreds of hours dealing with WASAPI problems, but nevertheless seems to have problems believing that the many thousand of lines of WASAPI code might interfere in some way with the audio.
