may I delete older files
« on: November 19, 2013, 06:44:05 pm »

Been using MC for a long time. I found a lot of old program data here: C:\Users\my name\AppData\Roaming\J River, from MC 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19. I have not deleted MC 17 just yet, however 14-16 are long gone. There are a lot of Gb being used here. Is there any reason why I should think about archiving, should I just delete, or leave these be?

When I find dirs that I *think* can do without... but am unsure... I rename them with <original_name>.YYYYMMDD and then the next time I find them... I know I can delete them.

Newer versions of MC may refer to cover art stored in older cover art folders.  Check the older cover art folders and be sure you have what you need in the newer installation.

Other than that, there's not much need for the old data folders.

I also have been reluctant to delete those old space hogging "Media Center xx" directories containing cover art, a big thumbnail cache, old libraries and other stuff.  My first JRiver version 14 came set up to also store cover art in the music file tag, and I can view these thumbnails with dbPowerAmp.  This means that I should be 100% safe in discarding old JRiver version directories.  Should I take the plunge?  This space could be put to better use with music.

Try renaming the directories if you're not sure whether you're using them.
