Keep Media Folder Organized?

(1/2) > >>

ciamara:
Hi all,

In iTunes, under Advanced Options, there is a "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" option, which places files into album and artist folders and names the files based on disc number, track number and the song title.  Is there such an option in J River?  If so, could someone kindly point me to it?

Thank you!

kensn:
There is, and you can customize it pretty much any way you want it.

If you right click a track in a standard view and select "Rename, Move  and Copy files" you will be presented with a window that lets you design how you want the Directory and Filenames.

If the "Directories" box is checked you can set the "Base Path" like M:\Music\, and Rule like: [Artist]\[Album]\Disc [Disc #]\

If the "Filename" box is checked you can set the rule like: [Track #] - [Name]

Experiment a bit before you do a lot of files. There is a preview "New" That will show you what the result will be if you press ok.

You can also use expressions to do more elaborate things like clean up filenames ect.

Be careful...

ciamara:
Thanks!  This is really powerful.  Base path is set.

For Directories, I'm using:
[Album Artist]\[Album]

For Filename, I'm using:
[Track #] [Name]

I don't suppose there is a way to make this automatic?  So if I change the Album Artist, the music is moved.

Thanks again!

kensn:
You may want to use [Album Artist (Auto)], this will handle multiple artist albums correctly.

I do not believe it will implement the directory changes automatically moving files if you change the artist.

If you do get the rules set to your liking there is a "Preset" button you can press to save the setup, makes it easy to move manually if you change something.

Go slow.... and preview the changes carefully...

Fantastic.  Thank you!
