There kinda is a way to have some automatic renaming.  It involves Auto-Import rules.  You'd drop your files into an Incoming folder, and use auto-import rules to move the files to the locations based on some expression.  This has a limitation, however, in that typically you want to correct metadata after import.  By then, its too late - the files are imported and moving into folders which may not be based on correct metadata.
