Author Topic: After upgrade, Options.xml load fails for JRWeb.exe JRWorker.exe JRService.exe  (Read 23541 times)

When I was upgrading Media Center from about 18.0.106 (it was 18.0.10x) to 18.0.206, on an up to date Windows Vista, using the Media Center option, I had error messages from these modules, with each generating a separate message:
   JRWeb.exe
   JRWorker.exe
   JRService.exe

stating:  not loaded the product info file: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 18\Data\Default Resources\Options.xml

Dismissing all the generated pop up windows, this is displayed on the right hand panel:
There was a problem loading the web browser engine.
Please download and install the latest version of Media Center

Chrome is my default browser and has been for a long time, and I thought it was my browser when I initially installed JRiver successfully.  There was no problem until I attempted this upgrade.

When I tried to repeat the upgrade it failed because it says I have the latest version, so nothing happens!

I then downloaded the file and tried manually running it, but still get the same problems.

What do I do?  Added:  I have two log files available, but where should they be sent?

Odd problem.  I don't know.

You can choose your browser engine in MC options.  Try the search window there.

I assume you tried rebooting or uninstalling.

Thanks for the 'search window' hint. It was very useful!

I have:
1. uninstalled MC, without error messages
2. re-installed the stable version of MC, using the file downloaded from JRiver, without error messages
3. re-booted the PC
4. done a Google search in IE9, to check THAT IE was working!
5. done a Google search in Chrome version 28, to check THAT Chrome was working!
6. tried MC, with IE as the browser, but get the same problem as before
7. tried MC, with Chromium as the browser, but get the same problem as before
8. the symptoms have not changed

Did you want a log file?
If so, where do I send them?

I have the same problem. I'm using the v.18.0.209 and Win7.

Still no joy.

Is there an older version, 18.0.106 say, that I can re-install to check that it still works?

18.0.211 is at the top of this board.

With this version, I still get all the same error messages.

I can get the contents of my library and I can play my music files, but the error messages are still there.

I have tried 18.0.212 as well and the results are still the same: the error messages still occur.

ive gotten the same error and done the same process as described above as well. it goes away for me when i click on a playlist or audio\video tree. it consists of 2 messages that popup and can be x'd out upon initializing the mc program. but ive found that xing is just a waste of thumb strokes as i use a rf candyboard to control htpc. so i just let the messages be for several months now never mentioning it or investigating its etymology. also cannot use web search function either.

Has this problem stumped everyone?   ::) ::) ::)

It's been nearly a month and no attempt has been made to progress this, as a suggestion to install the latest version does not qualify, especially when the problem continued to occur!

Is there anything that I can do to help solve this problem?

Having paid for the software, I do not expect error messages to be displayed when using it.

I don't think this is an MC problem.  Problems like this usually turn out to be related to some "security" software.  Virus checker, etc.

I only have Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials running.

Is there any way of getting better diagnostics?  Why have the modules failed to load?

In my first post I requested an earlier version because I knew that it should work.  There is nothing like being able to show that one version works and another does not!

Is this possible?

That an older version works might or might not prove anything.

Try disabling them as a test.

My understanding is that you see an error when you look at a webpage view.  Is that correct?

These views run JRWeb.exe to show the webpage.  I can't think why JRWeb.exe would not load -- it's not a common problem.

Maybe you could you use Help > Logging and get a log.  Send it and a link to this thread to logs (at) jriver [dot] com.

Thanks.

Who are you asking, why are you asking, and what does your question mean?

I have sent my logs off and haven't had a response about it.

Go to Help / About and you will see the version.  It will be something like 18.0.200.  Please report the full version number you're using.

Yes, it's still on Vista, still getting updates.

The PC is circa 5 years, a Dell XPS M1530.

Is there a quicker way of obtaining a fix?

It has been well over a fortnight since I had any response at all.

It's been nearly four three months since I first reported the problem.

Added: It just feels like four.

I have tried MC19, as a 30 day trial version, and it works OK!

But MC18 still has the problems as described above!

I haven't had any communication with JRiver, outside this thread.

Has anyone looked at the files I sent?

Sorry, but we don't know.

You're having a problem we haven't heard from anyone else.

If MC19 works, that might be a solution.

If MC19 works, that might be a solution.

From my records, it looks like I purchased this product in February and reported the problem, five months later, in July.

Now, after several inquiries, and sending you several traces, I find that although no one appears to have done anything about it in MC18, it is now fixed in MC19.

The fact that it works with MC19 also shows that the problem is unlikely to be some "'security' software.  Virus checker, etc" as JimH suggested.

At the moment, I can use my nine month old MC18 that exhibits the problem, or MC19, with only 28 days left of my trial.

That one version works and another one doesn't is not proof that security software isn't a factor.  A firewall, for example, could be open for one and not for the other.

Your upgrade cost is $26.98, but I understand you may think that's unfair.

Yes I do. I purchased MC18 a lot less than a year ago and it hasn't been working for five months!

It could, but is it likely?  We are talking about the same product.
