Trouble tagging NAS files
« on: December 06, 2013, 11:46:39 am »

I have been using a NAS drive to store my music collection for a few weeks, and while playback doesn't seem to cause any trouble, I cannot tag files without getting the following error message: "Media Center encountered errors while moving files. Check that the files exist, are not read-only, and are not in use by other programs.". It would seem that the cause is the "read-only" part. I am not very familiar with that concept, and do not know how to change a "read-only" file to the type that can be modified.

How may I give Media Center access to the files, or completely remove the restrictions? I am using it solely for protection in case of hard drive failure and for storage size. I do not share the files with any other computer.

I am using the Synology DS413 NAS drive if that's of any help.

Have a look at permissions on the NAS setup. It may be that it currently allows read-only access.

All of the "users" have read/write permission, but that didn't help.

I'm using my NAS files from a windows-type drive called S:. I'm not sure if I configured MC properly.

I am not familiar with the Synology, but my Netgear has an additional (buried) permissions setting for newly created files which also has to be set to read/write. Is it only MC which has the problem, or does the NAS prevent changes to all files?

I tried to edit the name of a file using the windows explorer, and had no problem doing so.

Did you sort this out?

Every since installing MC19, I started getting tagging errors for existing files based on Synology DS411 and (3) local drives.

I have tried to fix the permission problem but it remains.
