Dunno really - I've only just got it recently. But it did tell me enough last week on a coupla tracks I was trying to burn, that they were corrupt enough for me to re-rip. Which saved me a lot of time looking around other areas for the problem.

Let's hear what you make of it - good luck

Hiya

I'm really not sure. I've just run my library through it (about 750 tracks - took about 10 mins). There's some in there that are at 90-100% error which are low quality recordings from vinyl. They still play ok but would'nt win any awards for quality but, then, they were pretty lousy quality to start with. About 40 tracks came in at 0.01-0.05% error and that does'nt bother me. I get your point though, what is ok and, if they've got errors, what kind of errors are they?

If you go to 'about' and then 'display help' it'll take you to the web and point to some help pages. I have'nt had time to do that yet but will do later on today.

For those who don't know what wer'e talking about - MP3Test at www.maf-soft./de#tools

Installed it this AM. It screened 8500  files in no more than 10 minutes. Pointed me to a couple with error rates 38-40%, totally corrupt which I deleted. A number of others (Art Tatum, from vinyl) at 100% were scratchy but bearable. Most useful to point you in the right direction, then user can figure out how bad the problem is.

BTW, link is www.maf-soft.de Then click on Tools.

The link from About>Help is dead. May be one on the home page, but I don't read German (English is tough enough for me). Running program while MJ is open craters available memory.

Hi Harry

Yeah, it does'nt look as though wer'e gonna find out any info about it - I did a search in Yahoo (the 'dead' page) and had a look at the results but there's nothing forthcoming. I'd be interested to know what they mean by errors. But, as you said, it certainly points you in a direction pretty darn quick. I picked it up a few weeks ago purely by chance, at the time when a coupla tracks that I was trying to burn kept crashing MJ. I'd posted the prob with no come back ( not surprising really), and then gave this a try. It gave them as about 60% error and, luckily, I still had the cd and reripped and then burnt them ok. So now, when I get some sort of surprise prob, I run MP3Test straightaway and it's helped out a further coupla times. Might be nice if MJ had something like this built in to automatically check the file after ripping or converting - could save hours of futile debugging etc.........

Best wishes - have a nice weekend

Funny, I was thinking the same thing (about the plug-in). WOuld be a very useful tool for MJ. Others can probably add to the list - think there was some earlier discussion about a plug-in to clean files, like MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab.

KingS - I'll happily do that but don't know his address. Can you drop it in here, she's living dangerously !!

NY40 - 'Family Court' - it's a kinda contradiction in terms don't you think !!!

Thank you!!! I didn't know if I was the only one who thought that was the most ridiculus thing to come across an open message board.

I think that's the 3rd time just in the past couple of months that someone's posted a credit card number here. Must be due to MJ's burgeoning share of the digital jukebox market. Bound to be more people coming (< Nikolay take note) along that don't have a great deal of message board experience. This is the first (and likely last) message board that I've ever posted to. But still, somehow I just can't picture myself posting a credit card number. Then again, come to think of it, I've done things far, far more foolish than that . . . .

It has happen before, the best thing is to let someone know so they can remove it to help protect them.

Point taken. I don't know if you caught my original post to that one. It is gone now. I should have suggested to her that it might be a good idea to modify her own post.
Didn't mean to ruffle anyones feathers.
