Hmmm.  It was working yesterday.  I have changed no settings.  My firewall has a passthrough for the correct port.  When I "test"  the server, I get the error that "This server is not reachable from the internet".  It sill  works on my home network.  I have reset the server and restarted the PC.  Any suggestions? Anybody?

Your outside port forward is to a fixed address and your PC is dhcp and the address changed?

Did I mention, I am still using MC16?  Would that make a difference?

The protocol hasn't changed.
I suspect your forward isn't working (or your wan address has changed). You could try webremote from a external connection.
http://wr.jriver.com
From inside your lan check your outside IP with one of the ip checkers, i.e. http://www.whatismyip.com/
Then try connecting from the outside without help of the wr.jriver.com
http://youroutsideipaddress:52199
MC periodically tests for IP changes and updates wr.
Whenever you do the test inside of MC you force an update.
Perhaps your firewall isn't allowing the outgoing connection?

You really should try MC19.

I tried both of the suggestions to connect to web remote but, neither worked.  I don't get it.  Everything was working fine yesterday.  Ididn't change anything and now I cannot register with J,River at all.

If you can't connect from outside with those suggestions, either your Media Network isn't running (check the status screen) or the port forwarding on your router isn't working.

I definitely have network connectivity.  I can access the internet and remote into my home PC from work (logmein).  Also, I can connect to media server on the Home network.  All that has changed is that MC can no longer register with J, River.  If port forwarding isn't working, I don't know why it would have suddenly stopped.  Also, I reset the IP address and reconfigured the router to forward on that IP and it still does not work.  I have set this dozens of times and it has always worked.  I reinstalled MC and rebooted several times.  Also, reset my router (powered down).  I'm stumped. This is like the most important feature of JRiver to me.  I listen all day at work to MC.  I really hope I can resolve this and any suggestions would be welcome.   Thanks.

Could a Windows update have caused this issue?  That is the only thing that has changed since it last worked.  A security update and IE11 were installed.  Just throwing that out there...

This might be really a long shot but

do you have a router that is given to you by your ISP? Or did you go out and buy it. If like me it came from your provider, they have this nasty tendency to upgrade their firmware and resetting my config. Just resetting the router will just reload their new config if that is the case. So double check by going into the router UI and checking your port configs maybe?

Thanks for the response.  I have checked and rechecked my router settings.  They had not changed until I changed them to troubleshoot.

ISP could be blocking it.
Try another port (say 8080).
Setup a forward on the router for 8080 to the PC on port 52199 (leave MC settings alone).
Then try webremote to your external IP from outside.

OK, I've tried every combination of ports and forwarding routes that I can think of and no matter what when I test the server it says my library is not reachable from the internet.  Very frustrated and out of ideas.
Thanks everybody for your help anyway.

Yes.  MC19 doesn't work either.  I know that probably means the problem is with my home network but, I have tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work.  :P >:(

Another 2 long shots -- do you have a DMZ setting on your router? If so what is it set to?

And rereading the entire post it wasn't mentioned, but I assume you did turn off your av firewall to check ?

DMZ is disabled and Firewalls are off.  Appreciate the response.  Thanks.

This is pretty drastic but you could enable it and put in a fixed IP adress of the machine  - I don't like doing it that way, but you aren't really open to the outside so should be ok -- other than that have no clue sorry; might indeed be an issue with version 16

That didn't work either but, I think I may have gotten a clue as to why this does not work.  My Comcast modem seems to be blocking the port somehow.  Now all I have to do is find a way to get into that and change the settings.  Not easy but, comcast tech support gave me a number to contact tonight when i get home which can get me into the configuration page, apparently.  How this just spontaneously changed, I do not know.

Thanks everybody for help and suggestions.

Also, Arindelle, thanks specifically for that tool you suggested (in another post) for finding external IP's.  That helped me close in on the modem.

I wanted to thank everybody for their help and let you know how this was resolved in case anyone else has the same issue (however unlikley that is).  I finally had to contact Comcast  tech support and they had to turn off the router function to their modem/wireless rotueter.  I was unable to configure it.  They were unable to give me a passord that worked so I could log in to it.  Somehow (perhaps a firmware upgrade) the router just started blocking port 80 traffic which I need to use for Media server to get past my work firewall.  After the 3rd or 4th Comcast tech, I finally got one who understood what I was asking enough to log in to the router and set it to function in "Bridge" mode (I was not using the router functiuonality as I have my own equipment anyway).  As soon as he did this my Media Server reguistered with JRiver and I was back in business.  Thanks, again.
