Lost Pointers to My Tunes

My MC has lost pointers to tunes that were listing in my playlists.  So now,when I search for a tune, I'm getting duplicates.  Is there a way to scrub my library of all tunes that don't have good pointers to my main hard disk where I store all my tunes.  This is becoming a real pain.
