You can drag drop items from your library there to add them to your device.  It isn't new, though the art is new as of a while back when the art was updated.

Thanks. I never would have guessed. For one thing, none of the devices I have are even remotely that shape.

I think it is supposed to be a "drop into a generic box" icon.

It is the same image used for adding files to Playlists if you use the Playlist Action Window thing.

I'm glad the designer didn't use it at every drop target, else the screen would be rather a mess.
