2. NEW: Vis engine accepts relative paths for images. (from Vis Studio and Vis Studio\Images)

How do I make this work for a file in Spectrum Analyzer sub-vol?

(Vis Studio\Spectrum Analyzer\xxxxxx.xxx does not work...I don't think I know the correct syntax.)

Update:
Well, I got '..\vis studio\spectrum analyzer\xxxxxx.xxx' to work...is that it?

Update:
Ok...I got it now...'spectrum analyzer\xxxxxxxx.xxx' works too...sorry for the stupidity on my end!
===============================================================================================

17. NEW: In CD burner (data mode), queued folder schemes can now be saved and re-loaded.
HURRAY!!  That's a great addition to MJ8...thanks!!

1. Changed: MP3 plugin should do a better job of not modifying files unless it needs to.
Thanks...Matt!!

Bad sounding playback with digital audio solved

in my device manager, my Yamaha CRW2100E CD-R had 2 drivers installed. I uninstalled them and rebooted. WinXp found the new hardware upon startup and the drivers were reinstalled, but now there were four. One driver that wasn't there before is named redbook.sys. I don't know which of the other drivers wasn't there prior, or how they disappeared in the first place. Now digital CD audio sounds great.

Still broken in 216. If I switch to analog playback, the behavior is the same as 211; in digital playback mode, MJ just silently disappears. Suggestions for other things to try?

------------------
Reiterating my report from 214, which encompassed an earlier report of less severe behavior in 211. I'm wondering if this is a known issue being addressed in cdmanager.dll, and if not, if you have any suggestions on how to attempt to diagnose the current behavior, since MJ just goes away - no GPF box, no nothing...

Thanks
--dwex

-------------------
This problem playing audio CDs that I just reported against 211 earlier today is now even worse in 214 - in Mini-Me mode, if I press Play or Next/Previous, MJ8 silently goes away - no GPF box, hence no debug info. 100% repeatable. I cannot reproduce this problem in Mega-Me mode.
------------------
Trying to playback an audio CD while in mini-me mode causes MJ8 to skip through the CD tracks until it "catches" on one and starts playing there. Selecting a track in the playlist window will usually cause the same thing to happen.
This is difficult to reproduce in mega-me mode, although I've done it a couple of times. It always happens in mini-me, though.

This happens with either analog or digital CD playback. Once playback "catches" on some track, it seems to proceed through the remaining tracks without problems.

Observation 2
When you have MP3 ID3v2 tagging turned off completely, can't MJ know this when doing a Properties on a file or files and not perform the exhaustive search of all the selected files? I mean, if I don't want to support ID3v2 tags at all in MJ, why search for something I don't have or support in hopes that you'll find something (which MJ won't). Seems like in this scenerio, MJ could come up quickly because every field I want supported is in MJ's own database. Am I missing something here or what?

ZRocker

MJ does not store in the database what tags are used in the file.

when you select properties MJ must read the info.

maybe for the best just incase the tags have changed do to a user maybe using another taging program.

KingS,

I'm not saying MJ stores what tags are in the file.  I'm saying MJ stores all the basic information I use in the v1 tags in its database and just updates the v1 tags when I update the MJ database.  So, MJ already has all the information contained in all my files because I only use v1 tags.  I'm trying to push and see why MJ is so slow now in v8.0 when it didn't used to be in v7.x (that I remember).  I think MJ took a step backwards and I'm trying to get a response (from JRiver) that justifies this...it may be a valid step backwards, I don't know.

KingS-> maybe for the best just incase the tags have changed do to a user maybe using another taging program

I thought that is what the Update Library options are for...
From MJ Help:

Update all database fields – updates all of the file information for a file.  This is like removing and re-importing, except that it will retain category and other information associated with the track.

Request: This is something I've been meaning to ask for for quite some time, and I just keep forgetting. Can we get an "Edit" or "Open in Media Editor" menu item added to the right click menu of all supported files?

Ever since turning Track Info into a Visualization plugin, Track Info's no longer display scroll bars when they need to.

The right click menu doesn't show up from the system tray icon when MJ is in mini-me unless it's also minimized.

This build has fixed a number of problems I had with some of the previous builds. No more popping of music, APE plug-in finally downloaded and installed properly, Maga-Me to Mini-Me switches back and forth with no problems.

GREAT JOB!!!

Thanks for the hard work and trying to make everyone happy!!! Hands down this is the best Media suite there is!

I am still having problems after 25 to 40 songs it reboots (last build it would lockup). This doesn't happen on two computers running Win Me it is just on the one running XP. Also on the reboot it loses the library you have to restore it.  This must be some problem with XP and MJ. I am using 216. I have Vis turned off I have tried it both ways.

Only problem I have is when opening devices and clicking on the cd writer drive, MJ crashes. If I click on Devices, every is display fine for that drive (and all drives). But once I click on the Drive in Devices, MJ shows what it would be and then a half second later, MJ crashes.

Then if you have "Open in Last Location" selected, it's hard trying to keep MJ open cause it's in a crash loop. Have to click fast to somewhere else before it goes.

Hello,

I've written on this one a while back: I think it's a bug.

My hard disk with all my MP3s is network mounted, and I use a laptop to mount the drive as read-only. I run MJ on the laptop. However when I load the default library, I get the following critical error: "Media Jukebox failed to open the file playlistx.jmd.." If I hit OK, the dialog just keeps coming up over and over. Will MJ not work with read-only access? I specifically want to keep my MP3 files as read-only over the network.

Thanks

Replay Gain values are not saved to mp3 unless MJ first writes the id3v2 tag and then redoing it. I usually have to analyze twice due to this problem. These values are not even saved to the database let alone the mp3.

If you move a file to a directory that already has the same file name, a confirmation is asked and if you select No, MJ updates the database anyway to the other file. If this file is not imported into the database, the file that was about to be overwritten that was in the database is no longer there.

Renaming a file but only changing the cases (A,a) crashes MJ. You are still having the same file name.

LastPlayed= doesn't work! Returns all files in Recently played.

~a returns all albums with no name if a search matches an album without an album name.

Visualizations are not resized to correct window height when auto-size bar is always visible.

Mouse clicks are happening TWICE when using mini-me/visualization windows. One on the menu, one behind the menu.

Non-window standard menus: quick play, next, previous, player (send to), file scrolls, tray icon menus are going off screen/unviewable. (dual monitors)

I too have seen this problem since the v7.x dayz...I just learned not to do that and use Windows Explorer to rename in those instances.

Nikolay,

I'm not clear whether or not this audio cd prob you found a solution is the same as the problem I have been reporting for 5 or 6 builds now. (can't remember exactly when it started because I haven't been playing cd's regularly with all builds.)

This is dealing with bad, scratchy sound, changes in speed of music, when playing a audio cd in _digital_ playback.
Analog playback is fine.

Wonderful. Thanks, Nikolay.

w.r.t my multimedia keyboard problem, behaviors have changed with 216. I'm still working through permutations and will post an updated report when I get my head around what's actually happening. It appears to be much better, except for one odd occurrance than I want to isolate after power-cycling everything to make sure it isn't just things being in a wierd state.

Wishful thinking about the multimedia keyboard...

Current state of affairs with 216.
- All the multimedia keys work file when MJ has focus.
- Without focus play/pause seems to work, but also launches the Windows Explorer in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Keyboard folder (how incredibly bizarre; it used to launch Windows Media Player - I can't figure this out at all).
- Without focus, the Stop button often, but not always, causes MJ8 to GPF. This is WinXP, so I can't copy/paste much info from the GPF notification box, but:
    AppName: media jukebox.exe  AppVer: 8.0.216.0  ModName: playbackeng.dll
    ModVer: 2.0.142.0  Offset: 0003a7f0
- Without focus, the next/previous track buttons work fine.

Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro
WinXP
Driver version 2.0.0.300 (downloaded from Windows Update)
Microsoft Intellitype Pro v2.11 (downloaded from Microsoft Hardware website)

I've reinstalled both the keyboard drivers and Intellitype, and power-cycled everything (cold boot). I can't figure out where this launch-windows-explorer thing is coming from.

Windows Media Player does not have these issues, as a point of comparison.

Media Jukebox  8.0.216

Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000

Any suggestions?

(moved from another thread re DIBENG.DLL crashes)

Spoke too soon - the DIBENG.DLL dybbuk is back. Have 216 installed both locations. Not doing anything much but playing a series of files on the office computer and working in Outlook and Word.

Anyone else still seeing this?

Thnx...HTH

Something I noticed that don't seem right.

In File Properties, when you go to the Image tab and click "Get" and then choose "From Internet" the resulting box has an option to NOT go online but to reestablish links to local cover art images. That option seems out of place considering I chose a "From Internet" option to get to it.

I've also been unable to retrieve ANY cover art from the internet, even for files that I have successfully done so in the past. Anybody else?

And I just had all sorts of weird things happen to me...

First, I imported a file. MJ did so, but then exitted automatically.
I re-opened MJ, and the imported file was still there.
I went to Recently Imported to clean up a few files that I had imported.
I filled Properties from Filename, Cleaned File Properties, then Renamed Files from Properties.
I then Analyzed Replay Gain.
I clicked Save, and two of the three files I had just updated vanished from Recently Imported. I searched for them under their Artist, but they weren't there.
So I told MJ to import again.
It crashed.

Weird.

That is reproducible, by the way. At least up to the point where entries vanish from Media Library. It just happened again. Only this time, I closed MJ immediately afterward and started getting error messages about not being able to read all of my .jmd files (suggesting they may be corrupt or read-only), and then MJ crashed.

I'll try deleting my library and starting over. Thankfully this is my work library (much smaller with only one playlist) and not my home library. Next Page

Bug:

Sometimes the windowed-mode visualization window loses the Always On Top support...even though the setting is set (for windowed-mode).

To replicate:
1. Start a vis in windowed-mode (turn on Always On Top if not on already)
2. Bring up the Vis Studio
3. Change a setting (anything)
4. Exit Vis Studio and do NOT save (that's what I was doing...not saving)
5. At this point, your windowed-mode vis will not remain on top - if you toggle the Always On Top setting, it will work again
