Another noob question: audio library not reflecting HD changes
« on: December 21, 2013, 04:05:55 pm »

So I delete some files from my audio folder on my server and run a folder only library update (I do not use the auto update function). My changes are not reflected in my library.  What do I need to do to make my changes show up in MC library?
Thanks

That's what the Auto-Update function does.

Not using the Auto-Update function is silly, because it works extremely well.  However, if you really want to only run it manually, but you want it to remove and update files as they change on disk, you can.  You just have to configure the Auto-Update functions (set up folders for it to monitor there), and turn it off.  Then, you can do Tools > Import > Run Auto-Import Now to force it to do a full scan when you want it to.

However, as I said, turning it off this way is silly.  The full-auto mode performs way better, and doesn't require a full filesystem scan.

Thanks for the replies.  I thought that both manual and auto update options would reflect changes made to my media collection one doing so automatically, the other only when prompted by the user.  I chose not to automatically update as I then had the chance to make changes to my media before updating my MC library.

Unless you're wanting to add non-JPG cover art, you're probably best to make any library changes through Media Center itself.

I'm beginning to come to the same conclusion.  I've used Tagscanner for years and I know how to achieve my desired results easily.  MC can no doubt make all tag and artwork changes automatically, it's just a question of finding the time to sit down and figure out how!

That's the way I roll.

I find it better to copy and move files via MC's explorer, especially where I've got folders set up for Auto-import.

The penny that dropped for me some time back was to recognise that MC's power is that it's a database. By working within, the database is automatically kept up to date. Where there's any doubt, I just run an import on spec and it keeps things on the straight and narrow.
