My family has played DVDs a lot in the past few years and there have been a few builds with that will hang when playing a DVD either directly from the drive or ripped into a DVD file structure. I think it happened a few weeks ago. I see if I can try some out in the next few days.

Have you submitted a log file of the crashing?

Are you using madVR (ROHQ) ?
I have found madVR to be unstable with DVD menus if you are forcing film-type deinterlacing.

Try switching to Red October Standard and see if it helps.

Another thing to try is to make sure your video card drivers are up to date (from the manufacturer, not Windows Update).

Not using  MadVR and everything is up to date. One thing I found though is the jriver xml file for metadata plus the jpg. Deleted these and it started playing!!
However I still ahve issues with the CARS1 folder on my hard drive. I'll check with other DVD folders..
thx

That makes me think one of those two files (the JRSidecar.xml file or the "artwork" JPEG) was corrupt and unreadable.

Do a chkdsk as soon as is possible on the system.
