Reaper interferes with TV capture
« on: January 12, 2014, 10:33:11 pm »

I was trying to use Reaper (music software) to record an LP with ASIO while MC was recording a TV show.
The recording was interrupted but MC reported that the show was still recording.
This has happened several times but I only recently made the connection between Reaper and MC.

Reaper uses ASIO to record via a USB ADC.
I have MC configured to use WASAPI, but I don't know what impact that has on a recording.

I was able to watch a live TV show and record with Reaper.

Not sure what Reaper does but why not let MC record the video and then convert video to audio using the MC format converter once it's finished? Then as a subsequent step, you could then use MC's Media Editor or some other audio software, like Audacity, to edit the audio to your liking.

That way at least, you're not making the system unstable from one end of the process or the other.

The audio recording is completely separate from the video recording.

I was time shifting a football game and making a digital file from a record.

In the future, I will know not to perform these activities simultaneously.
However, I was hoping someone could explain what was causing MC to stop recording.

I use reaper a lot, also with some mc open in the back, but I don't do anything television.

what I was wondering, is mc using the same dac as you use to record?
and does it always happen?
is starting up reaper enough to cause this, or do you have record?

 :)

The MC output is bitstreamed over HDMI to my preamp.
Reaper is using a USB ADC/DAC.

I will do some more experiments but I don't think starting Reaper causes the problem.

This is curious.  MC does not use audio hardware when doing TV recording.  What TV tuner device (brand and type) do you use?
