Lending a Hand
« on: January 11, 2014, 05:39:32 pm »

I've PM'd JimH to see if JR need a hand for any specific things while Matt is recovering.  Jim's post about the helping out on Interact with new users got me thinking if there are other things we can do to help reduce any of the high volume but routine tasks that JR is normally faces on a daily basis in the MC world.  I've not many ideas, but there is plenty of talent and good will on this forum so..., does JR need any temporary assistance with stuff like:
- Overall Forum Mgt (I suspect there are many who do this now for other forums)?
- Allocation of specific sub forums (Windows, Mac, Unix, HW etc etc) to specific Beta Team members that we could help take more responsibility with?

Just an idea...

Thanks, Nathan.  I'm very grateful for your thoughts on this.  It is a blow for JRiver, to be sure.  Nobody knows how long Matt will be out, but we know he won't be back soon.  We're lucky to have such an experienced team, and to have Hendrik just coming on.

I'd be happy to have another admin or two.  Are you volunteering?

Matt has always answered a lot of questions, especially ones that I've had trouble with.  He obviously knows the program very well.

Let's see what other people have to say.  We can surely use the help these days.  Thank you, all.

Hi Jim,
I'd be happy to play any role that helps out.  If you are looking for Forum Admin Support then a few across various timezones would make sense, I'm a +10 UTC
Thanks

We may add another admin soon, but it would be very helpful if someone could watch:

Facebook  -- JRiver has an account there.

ComputerAudiophile forum.

Head-fi

AVSforum

I know that there is some overlap with this forum, so maybe it will happen on its own.

Thanks.

ok I can try to cover those forums -- maybe not all on a daily basis but I'll give it a shot

EDIT: I follow the French Forum daily anyways. And I'll try to reply to 0 reponse posts before you guys are up and about ... 7 hours ahead of Minnesota - although I'm not very competent with the multichannel side of things - small knowledge of MAC and 0 for Linux though.

Suggestion -- I see a lot of posts that should be split (and some are quite good btw) - maybe a post somewhere to alert admins on "duty" so to speak? eg http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=86383.new;topicseen#new nice info on clipping especially if you don't know much about it

I can cover AVS as I hang out there often enough. I'm subscribed to the JRiver thread, and I usually plug MC whenever appropriate in other threads too. I'll help however I can there, but will encourage those who are stumped to post on Interact if I cannot aid them. I might also post links to questions beyond me from AVS in this thread here if that's ok?

I'm just going to try to help out here when I can.  If you'd like me to do more, or need any other help I can provide, just ask.

And, I'm going forward all of my spam, even email, to Nathan.*

* Oh wait, is that not what this means?  Meh.  Who cares?

I will note that when Matt comes back and discovers that Nathan has used his new godlike powers (deleting all other "off topic" and "not helpful" posts, for example) to collude with Hendrik to spend all this time on implementing an Intercom.

Well...

He'll probably use it in his house to bother his kids in the shower.  But, he'll also be pretty angry.

Govern yourselves accordingly.

The new forum should be nice a simple, one board for Intercom and the other for Chicken related posts.   ;D

I created a new topic on behalf of an AVS user. I'd like to see this function too:

I'm new to this site and would like to know how to help / participate in the development of the JR Media Center. Could someone provide a link to more info?

You've come to the right place.

Just post here on Interact.
And participate.

They're listening, and participating too.

Nathan (jmone),
Thanks again for your very kind offer of help.  It means a lot.  Matt's absence has given all of us more to do and more to think about.  Your help is much appreciated.
