The Zapping Noise with Lampizator USB Transport
« on: January 22, 2014, 11:06:55 pm »

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. Whenever I switch resolutions either up or down for example, going from Redbook to 24/48, I get a zapping noise through my speakers, then the music plays normally and will continue to play normally until I switch resolutions again. As long as I stay in the same resolution the transport does not make this noise as I select the next track.

Windows Laptop connected to Home Server. Eight gig of RAM on both machines. I'm using Ethernet Cat 7 to connect server to laptop. Then Clarus Crimson or Lampizator USB cord.

Thanks,
Steven

Try changing the buffer size (larger or smaller may help) and the "play silence at startup for synchronization" option.

If these don't fix it, you may have to upsample everything to a single sample rate to avoid this noise.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried changing buffer and the play silence at startup for synchronization. Nothing seemed to affect this. I did try converting everything to 24/196 and heard nothing but distorted garble. At any rate wouldn't there be an SQ hit for up sampling all files to that resolution?

Anymore clues would be helpful and welcome.

I'm wondering if the Linux version will suffer from these affects. The few people I know who run Linux, seem to think that Linux is a magical operating system that will solve all issues and help one to enter a state of bliss.

Thanks in advance,

Many DACs have a pop/click when changing sample rates, so the only solution would be to upsample everything to a fixed rate if changing the buffer size doesn't fix things.

It sounds like something else may be wrong if playback doesn't work when upsampling though.

Try 16/48.  If that works, try others.  You lose nothing by upsampling.
