I used it and never could work with MC.
It is better and cheaper to use a Laptop or PC with MC installed and use the CD to rip through MC.
Make a good decision.
PS: The guy from Vortex Box is an outstanding person (the UK one) and accepted the Box back and full refunded me.

Kind regards

I'm curious as to why you'd want to use both products and what you expect to happen. Could you explain a bit more of how you'd like to the two products to interact and what you want each one to do? As far as I can see, they're similar products doing the same thing so why do you want to set up one to work "with" the other?

thanks for getting back to me. i was hoping to have just 1 program i could use to use for all my music needs. vortexbox works great for ripping cds and general playback but i feel mc gives me better control of making playlists and  just better control of my music collection. i beleive on the vortexbox, i use squeezebox and just think it would be better if i could replace that with mc.

Have you checked out the alternative to VB's standard server protocol, miniDLNA, with Serviio?

I've got no idea, really. Just using the VB wiki.

Also looks the VB forum has various posts on making problem servers work. There's another port of call.

Alternatively, can you access your files via SMB?

Another thought I had was that given Vortexbox works in a Linux OS, you might be able to load up MC Linux and use that path as a work around. But that probably has all sorts of warts on it. I've got no idea of how closed Vortexbox makes the OS. This may help:

I use a VB with my Mac. I have a new iMac with no optical drive. I could have purchased an optical drive but went with the VB for other reasons as well. These reason include Blu-Ray movie ripping and file storage. If not for these reasons it may not be worth it.

For example, I have two copies of my music collection, FLAC for critical listening and iTunes for iOS and ATV listening. With the VB I have two steps. First rip FLAC on VB. Second use XLD to convert and import into iTunes.

Overall I am happy with the VB, but depending on what you are going to use it for, may not be worth it.
