Interact is 10 years old
« on: February 05, 2014, 06:51:00 pm »

Every once in a while, I look at the forum stats.  I just noticed that my registration is from October of 2003.  I think that date is when we transferred the forum from another forum software to YABB, the current one.  So maybe the forum is 11 years old now.  In any case, it's a milestone.

I also sometimes look at the signup date of users who are still active here.  There are many who have been here as long as, or almost as long as, I have.  That must mean something, I guess.

So, here's to Interact!  Hip hip hoorah.  Hip hip hoorah.  And so on....

You can see the stats here.

I'm pretty sure it is substantially older than that, Jim.  You should look it up, somehow.

The database did reset at some point.  Nothing else makes sense.  It says I joined on 12-02-2003.  Really?  So, less than two months after you?  No, that can't be.  But, if you do the search for my posts, and skip all the way to the end of the list the date of the post is... 12-02-2003.

That's not when I joined, either, though I haven't been here the whole time.  I'm pretty sure that's not my first post ever (which I remember, vaguely, I think), but is from right near the end of the MC9.1 cycle.  Here's a discussion thread about MC10 only a few days later. I'm pretty sure I joined during MJ8, though maybe not until MC9.  Plus, you know, my user ID is 8294.  Yours is 3, so there's that.

Incidentally, the earliest post I can find from you is:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=3366.0

That's dated 09-18-2002.  Looks to me like you were testing the new board.  Something funky happened in there with the ordering, though.  As if you search for all of your posts, and then go to the end of the list, the posts shown at the top of that last page are from September 2003, and the one at the very bottom matches that date shown in your date registered: 10-08-2003.  But, the posts go backwards for a number of pages.  Page 781 of your posts has stuff from Feb 2003, page 758 has stuff from September 2002, and then suddenly page 757 goes back up to 2003-10-08, 13:07:34 mid-way through the page.  Something got wonky in there.

In any case, then there's this thread from the day after you did that test:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=3325.0

Rudy, there, references:

New forum looks great!

And then there's this guy from the same day:

My old login will not work at all. So i had to make a new one. Ack!

But then...  I found even older posts.  Way older than your test above, at least according to the date stamps.  Here's one from MarkCoutinho from January 2002 (almost 8 full months before your test post from above): http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=9512.0

I've converted some mp3's from 160 or more back to 128 mbs bitrate, to save some diskspace.
Dear lord, man.  Don't do that!

That's the oldest one I've found so far.  It is difficult to look, though because of the sorting weirdness when you go way back, and I'm not sure we can be positive those dates are correct.  Interestingly, that thread is also the earliest post I've found thus-far for KingSparta, but it says he registered even earlier in August of 2001. And, of course, Matt somehow registered on Valentine's Day in 1973, which is a pretty darn neat trick.  Nikolay registered way back in May, 2000 (according to the obviously impeccable stats), and this guy registered (supposedly) in December of 1999.  I'm not too sure about all of those dates (particularly Matt's) but it looks like some things from those early post dates matches.

So, I think we can say, safely, that it is older than January 21, 2002, and that at some point around September of that year, you migrated over to new software, and must have imported some posts, but not all, and some stuff got messed up with that early data at some point.

Very funny trudging through all the old stuff, though.  Thanks for leading me on a little hunt for a bit there.

Matt replies with...

If you don't mind the possibility of a few bugs, upgrade to Media Jukebox 8.xx beta and that problem will be gone. (MJ 8 is available here on Interact)

Take care.

-Matt

Which is the earliest post from him I can find.

October 29, 2002, 05:39:11 pm for me?
Guess that gives me seniority over Glynor. I've oft suspected as much.

Although my first post was about a year later. I was asking about Winamp plugins :P

Time flies :)
