CD Burning Fails Every Time
« on: February 24, 2003, 07:33:14 pm »

Hello,

I'm using Media Jukebox 8.0.388.  I've tried 4 times to burn a CD using the program and each time it's the same.  Goes through the preliminary prep and such, begins burning the first track (sometimes it makes it through the first track and goes on to the second), then an error message (unfortunately, I don't have the exact error message).  Anyway, it ruined the cd's.  I'm running Win2K on a P3-750, 256mb RAM, External HP 8200 Series CD Writer (via USB).  I read somewhere that I should disable the "CD text" option, but I can't find where that is.  I'd appreciate any help you could give in this regard.  Thanks in advance!

I REALLY doubt it's that.

Could be interaction with some other burning software. What else is installed? Do you have latest OS service packs, ASPI, etc?

Post your sys info from MJ>Help>System Info

Thanks for your reply.  As per your request sys info from MJ:

Media Jukebox  8.0.388
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 201 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 26 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 2 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4704.1100
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3502.4718
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

The only other program for burning that I have installed is the HP Recordnow ("powered by Veritas").  Also, MusicMatch Jukebox but I don't use it for burning.  I'm trying to get my music software down to just one (Media Jukebox) but I do need the burning capability.  Hope that helps.

The burn speed for that model is 4X right? That's right near the limit of what USB 1.1 can handle on a practical basis. Plus, if you have the "direct mp3 decoding" option checked, your 200mhz cpu is getting maxed out. Try dropping the speed to 2X and/or unchecking the direct decode option. Check the "test mode" option while you do test burns to avoid ruining the CD.
