Cambridge Audio DACMagic Plus - No 24/192k
« on: January 09, 2014, 10:02:23 pm »

I am using the latest version of JRiver Media Center 19 with a Dell PC, Windows 7 and the Cambridge Audio DACMagic Plus via USB.  Installed the USB 2.0 drivers, set to that DAC in Windows and on JRiver and selected 24/192 on Windows output and I am using AISO of course and I get sound output just fine, but when I try to play a 24/192k WAV, it only plays as 24/96k.  I have already made sure that the DAC will read 24/192k by downloading Foobar and playing a few 24/192k files and it locks onto the 192 (this was the suggestion from Cambridge Audio to amke sure there was not an issue with the DAC itself).  What am I missing - this is frustrating!!! >:(

why do say of course? If you have hardware suppling its own asio idrivers, you would probably want to, but that's not the case with Cambridge DAC, so try WASAPI first.

I have a DacMagic at home and I needed to set a 24 bit bitdepth in my audio device settings under Version 18 (automatic works for me for MC 19) you can try one of those 24 bit integer options to see.

The Dac Magic Plus only allows max of 96Khz input over USB 1 ports. Although if Foobar works this might not be the issue, but check to see if changing USB to another USB 2 or USB 3 port to see if it matters.

CA says to get 24/192k on that DAC (via USB), you need to use ASIO setting and USB 2 driver...  and I am doing that.

Did you select usb2 in the driver settings?
This is explained in the manual.
Set the usb audio mode to class 2, on the Cambridge audio usb product

yes check if DAC magic by itself is in USB 2 mode or not??

Switching between USB Class 1 and USB Class 2 operation
Your DacMagic Plus will come set to driverless USB Audio Class 1.0 by default, but it can be
configured to run in either USB Class Audio 1.0 or 2.0 mode. To change USB Class, press in the
‘Filter/ Phase’ button during power up. One of the digital input source LEDs will illuminate to indicate
current USB setting: Digital 1 represents USB Audio Class 1.0, likewise Digital 2 is USB Audio Class
2.0. USB Class is selected by turning the Volume knob, once set simply press the Volume knob and
DacMagic Plus will restart in your chosen mode.
