Just Getting started
« on: March 06, 2014, 09:07:45 am »

I have used JRiver in the past but now I have a different system. I have a Logitech server and a PiCore Player (squeezebox). How can I set the new JRiver software to stream the music I select(my library and radio stations) to the PiCore player? I have been searching but being new to all this don't actually know what I am looking for. Thanks for any help.

LMS is running on a HomeSeer server. MC will run on the same computer and possibly on others. Thanks for responding.

In that case, install Whitebear on the Homeseer, and disable LMS' DLNA plugin.  After LMS and Whitebear are configured and running, MC will see your SBs as zones, whereby you can either select one as the active zone (and all playback will be targeted to that zone), or use Send To to push audio to any zone.

Question:  I installed Whitebear on the HS system and it sees the LMS server. Can I put MC in another system and access that server combo? I seemed to loose access to the server from the HS plugin. And how would I do that locally and remotely (MC and server access)? Thanks for all your help again.

I don't know much about the limitations of LMS running on a NAS, so let's get that forewarning out of the way.

Whitebear makes your SBs look like normal DLNA renderers, and acts as a DLNA server, brokering requests to LMS.  That means, any suitable controller should be able to stream music to your SBs.

There are some advantages when Whitebear runs on the same system as MC, when MC and LMS share the same set of files.  It can ask LMS to directly play the audio file - after it brokers the play request, it is not involved and LMS is doing the playback.  Otherwise, MC will stream the audio file, either transcoded or native, as supported by the renderer.

So the anwser to your question is Yes, MC can run on another system, and you can push the audio stream through Whitebear to LMS.

Thanks MrC. And how would I do that? Can you point me in the right direction?

I'm not sure which part you're asking about...

MC - just install it, launch it, and enable Media Network in Tools > Options > Media Network:

There is Gizmo available for android, and others:
